Decision - Shannon Burgin

On 3 May 2017 and 29 August 2017 the Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) Inquiry Panel Charged trainer Mr Shannon Burgin under rule 83(2) of the GRNSW Greyhound Racing Rules as follows: 

- That you, Shannon Burgin, a registered trainer, while in Charge of the greyhound ‘Eye Dunno’, presented the greyhound for the purpose of competing in race two at Richmond on 1 February 2017 in circumstances where the greyhound was not free of any prohibited substance (Charge 1).

- That you, Shannon Burgin, a registered trainer, while in Charge of the greyhound ‘Eye Dunno’, presented the greyhound for the purpose of competing in race four at Wentworth Park on 29 March 2017 in circumstances where the greyhound was not free of any prohibited substance (Charge 2).

In relation to Charge 1, the prohibited substances were caffeine and its metabolites theophylline, paraxathine and theobromine. 

In relation to Charge 2, the prohibited susbstance was heptaminol.

Following Mr Burgin’s admission to the Charges and consideration of the mitigating factors, the GRNSW Inquiry Panel has determined to impose a period of suspension of 14 weeks in relation to Charge 1 and a $1,000 fine in relation to Charge 2.
