Aston Dee Bee Set To Hum Around Albion Park

By Jeff Collerson

Victoria greyhound Aston Dee Bee is drawn to be the greyhound to beat in the Group 1 Ubet National Sprint Championship at Albion Park tonight.

A box eight specialist, Aston Dee Bee, from the all conquering Seona Thompson kennel, will wear the pink rug in the feature event (race six, 520m).

Aston Dee Bee won the Victorian state final at Sandown in a blistering 29.17 - a victory which took his tally to 19 wins from 36 starts. His toughest rival is likely to be his kennelmate Bewildering, who lacks Aston Dee Bee's early speed but who possesses a powerhouse finish.

Bewildering was runner-up to Aston Dee Bee in the Sandown final and should be able to avoid trouble from box seven. If Bewildering is no worse than midfield at the half-way mark he will take holding out.

NSW representative Bekin Street is among the outsiders after trialling a disappointing 30.43 in a solo trial at Albion Park last week. There is no doubt Bekin Street can improve sharply on that time because he misjudged the start in his trial.

But drawing box five in a star-studded lineup means the Christine Proctor-trained dog faces a tough task.
