Where Art Thou Brings Up Double At Headquarters

By Jeff Collerson

Where Art Thou came from last to win over 520m at Wentworth Park on Saturday night, a week after producing a back-of-the-field performance to score over the same course.

But Saturday night's defeat of El Magnifico and Big Chicken was a greater achievement because she contested the top grade race of the night, while a week earlier Where Art Thou tackled fifth grade opposition.

After unusccessful forays into 720m racing at WP in March and again in May, Where Art Thou, a litter sister and kennelmate of the 2016 NSW Distance Championship winner Cardiology, is now firmly established as a sprinter.

Her trainer Kayla-Jane COLEMAN's partner Shaun Evans said on Saturday: "It is just a matter of keeping Where Art Thou fresh between races.

"This win will be a boost for Kayla because Cardiology has had to be retired.

"She hurt herself in a trial at Dapto last Friday and while she is not expected to be in season for quite some time Kayla will breed from her.''

"Not bad for a backyard breed'' quipped trainer Robert Arnold after Simone Shimmers, a bitch he bred and owns, led throughout to topple a smart field in a 520m low grade heat on Saturday night.

Simone Shimmers lifted her earnings to more than $24,000 with the win, while later in the night her litter brother Stench Of Power's second placing took his tally to over $40,000.

Arnold raced and bred both Coarse Language, the sire of his Saturday night stars at WP, and their dam, Wow Pretty Girl.

Coarse Language was an outstanding short course speedster, winning 44 of 138 races, while Wow Pretty Girl is bred in the purple, being a sister to Arnold's best ever greyhound, Did I Entertain.

Did I Entertain won 30 of 99 starts between 2008 and 2011 and was among Australia's most gifted sprinters.

When Aye Tee Oh took a tumble at WP on July 8 she bruised her back but when she recovered trainer NICOLE Wallace wisely kept her away from the scene of her fall until Saturday night.

The aptly-named Aye Tee Oh, bought by Wallace and her husband Ian Wallace with the proceeds of a taxation refund cheque, came from fourth on the home turn to win a 720m event.

"When NICOLE brought Aye Tee Oh back to racing after the fall she took her to Richmond to rebuild her confidence and the greyhound had a win and a second over 717m before winning tonight,'' NICOLE's father Steve Moran said on Saturday.

A mishap at race night kennelling forced Returned Hero's scratching at WP on July 29 but the Beverley Mahoney-trained dog bounced back to power home for a runaway win over 520m on Saturday night.

"When I was kennelling the dog for Bev on July 29 he suddenly jumped up and bent back his dewclaw,'' husband Denis Mahoney said.

"The on-track veterinary surgeon had to snip the end of the dewclaw off but obviously the dog had to be scratched.

"When Returned Hero was a distant third on the back straight tonight I was unsure whether he had enough work to finish as strongly as he did to win.

"But he is a naturally strong dog and having box eight was a bonus because he is such a wide runner.''

Lochinvar Hugo is likely to be switched to middle distance racing after finally breaking through for his first WP 520m win on Saturday night.

Lochinvar Hugo came from sixth position with 250m left to run, roaring away in the straight to score by two lengths.

The talented Robert Smith-trained dog had been runner up in four of five previous WP 520m assignments, but now looks set for a middle and possibly long distance campaign.

See you next week!
