Decision - Rodney O'Brien

By Greyhound Racing NSW

On 21 July 2017 the Greyhound Racing NSW Inquiry Panel charged trainer Mr Rodney O’Brien under rule 83(2) of the GRNSW Greyhound Racing Rules as follows:

That you, Rodney O’Brien, a registered trainer, while in charge of the greyhound ‘She’s Grand’, presented the greyhound for the purpose of competing in race five at Wentworth Park on 29 April 2017 in circumstances where the greyhound was not free of any prohibited substance.

The prohibited substances were caffeine and theobromine.

Following Mr O’Brien’s early admission to the charge and consideration of the mitigating factors, the GRNSW Inquiry Panel has determined to impose a period of suspension of 12 weeks.

Mr O’Brien subsequently lodged an application for a stay of penalty with the Racing Appeals Tribunal. This application was refused by the tribunal.
