Beegumbah Rumba Aims To Hum At Nowra

By Stuart Turner

Beegumbah Rumba looks a strong chance to continue his winning form at Nowra today as trainer Vicki Prest targets some big races for her impressive greyhound.

The consistent son of Cape Hawke and Emannette jumps from box seven in the day’s fifth race, the 4/5th grade Ladbrokes Red Dog Bonus Stakes over the 630m aiming for a fourth consecutive victory.

A winner in a quality race over the 520m at Nowra three starts back, Beegumbah Rumba also triumphed clinically at Wentworth Park on July and won by a huge 14-length margin over the 600m at Canberra last Sunday.

Prest said next month’s NSW Championship, the forthcoming Group 3 Canberra Cup and even September’s Group 1 Hume Cup in Melbourne were all possible targets for her impressive greyhound.

“There’s good greyhounds involved in these races but the way he’s going, he’s keeping up with them,” Prest said.

“We were thinking about the Darwin Cup at the end of this month, but the logistics of travelling made it hard. We have these big races coming up that we can drive to, so we’ll stick with these.

“You learn in greyhounds that you cannot plan – as soon as you do something goes wrong – but with the way he’s going, he’d be a contender.”

Beegumbah Rumba’s impressive recent form has taken his career record to 17 wins and 18 minor victories from 51 starts.

He looks the one to beat in this race, with his toughest opponent looking like handy local Panel Beater (box one).

“I don’t think he’ll run the 700 metres but this distance should be fine for him,” Prest, based at Young said.

Beegumbah Rumba is the like the best greyhounds – nothing fazes him.  He’s a smart greyhound who just takes everything in his stride.

Beegumbah Rumba looks a strong chance to continue his winning form at Nowra today as trainer Vicki Prest targets some big races for her impressive greyhound.

“He goes well at all tracks and I think he has beaten Panel Beater before down at Bulli.

“I wasn’t at Nowra to see win last time but I’ll be heading down on Monday. Hopefully I’ll see him get the win.”

Short course star Tijuana Icon (box three) looks a strong chance to continue his brilliant form in the day's Free-For-All Shoalhaven Shuttle Sprint Stakes (race four, 365m).

The Marien Sullivan-trained greyhound has built a formidable record over the 400m and looks to have the class edge on this field.

Class local contender Maya Herrera (box three) and in-form Holme’s (box four) look the top picks in races six and seven respectively.
