Wild Promises Looks A Real Chance At Gosford

By Stuart Turner

Bob McColm is confident he can score wins with his in-form duo Wild Promises and Forced Exit at Gosford on Tuesday night.

Wild Promises aims for a fourth consecutive victory when he jumps from box six in the third heat of the Team Harry Japan Gosford-Wenty Series (race nine, 515m).

The exciting son of Magic Sprite and Takeover Teddy has scored four wins and two minor placings from nine starts so far – all over the 515m at LADBROKES GARDENS.

This is his first run in almost a month but McColm said his greyhound was developing well.

“He’s certainly showing promise,” McColm, based at Sawyers Gully in the Hunter Valley,  said. “He’s only a young greyhound and still improving.

“It’s nerve-racking watching him race. He usually gets behind the leaders and then charges home late.

“I have just been struggling to find the right races for him (but) he’s in good condition and ready for this race. He should put in another good performance.”

Wild Promises clocked a smart 29.82 over the 515m at LADBROKES GARDENS in May and looks to have the time edge on this field.

Meanwhile, Forced Exit jumps from box six in the B&J Asphalt Stakes (race three, 600m) aiming to further improve his consistent record of eight wins and 11 minor placings from 24 starts.

A sister of McColm’s star stayer Mr. Shire, Forced Exit has won two of her three starts since returning in May from a long lay-off and has placed twice previously over this trip.

She finished fourth over the 715m at LADBROKES GARDENS on June 23 on her last start but McColm is expecting a better performance tonight.

“I’m very happy with how she’s gone,” McColm said. “She was run down by a good field on that last start, but it was a good effort.

“I’m sure she’ll be a lot stronger for that run now I’ve stepped her back to the 600 metres. She’s a proven performer at this level.

“I’m expecting both Wild Promises and Forced Exit to go well tonight.”

Meanwhile, McColm said Mr. Shire should be back in action shortly after he was forced to scratch the gun stayer from a 720m race at Wentworth Park last Saturday night.

In other Gosford Tuesday action, Laurie’s Jackie (box two) looks the top pick in  a terrific Central Coast Civil Stakes (race seven, 400m).

The Simon Ma-trained greyhound has mixed form recently but has a smart best of 22.67 over this trip and has won twice and placed twice in five previous starts from this box.

Impressive newcomer He Can Yodel (box two) looks the best bet in the high-quality Ladbrokes Monthly Medal Final (race eight, 400m).

The son of Fabregas and Another Request has scored five triumphs from eight starts so far and was a speedy 22.89 winner over this trip two weeks ago.
