Fast Times Lands Big Race Win For Hill

By Jeff Collerson

Rugby league's State Of Origin decider is just days away so it was fitting that Fast Times, owned by former NSW Blues and Australian test centre Terry Hill should take out the Group 1 Garrad’s Winter Carnival Cup at Albion Park last Thursday.

Hill bought Fast Times at the Richmond Puppy Auction and could not have been happier with the big race win.

“While footy was my career, greyhounds have always been my passion,” Hill said.

“I am in the sport for the long haul and own a stack of puppies which will be racing over the next couple of years.

Fast Times is a son of Clockwise, who won the 2013 Group 3 Magic Maiden for Sydney's John Carruthers.

“I was thrilled when John took the time to phone me and congratulate us immediately after Fast Times' win on Thursday night.

“Tony Brett is now planning to take the dog to Melbourne for the Group 1 Maturity heats at The Meadows, Melbourne, on June 15.”

Fast Times, who led throughout to win in 29.77, continued Brisbane trainer Tony Brett's remarkable record in the feature race, as he has now won five of the past seven Winter Carnival Cups.

Brett's previous winners were Iso Octane (2011), Glen Gallon (2012 and 2013) and Flash Reality (2014). On top of that, Brett's late father DAVE took out the 1994 and 1998 finals with Toban Leah and Shady Macbeth.
