Centavos Aims To Reign At Dapto

By Stuart Turner

Centavos and up-and-coming trainer Kerryn O'Sullivan can continue their winning run with another victory in the first of four heats of the Kiama Knights JRLC Series (race three, 520m) at Dapto on Thursday night

O'Sullivan's greyhound jumps from box seven looking a good chance to extend his impressive career record of six wins and three minor placings from 12 starts.

Centavos has saluted on five of his last seven starts and enjoys Dapto, having won two of his three previous visits to the track.

Centavos continued his impressive recent form with another smart triumph over the 520m at Wentworth Park on June 28 and he looks the class act of this field.

"I'm optimistic for his chances," O'Sullivan said. "He's won from box seven and he's won at Dapto before.

"He's a very strong greyhound - we think he might go over further eventually.

"I cannot ask for too much more from him and it should come down to how well he jumps.

"It's a tricky race but I think he can win."

O'Sullivan was introduced to the sport about seven years ago as a teenager and worked alongside leading mentor Dave Fahey in her native NEW ZEALAND.

She moved across the Tasman about 15 months ago and after handling greyhounds for premier trainer Mark Gatt is now giving training a go herself.

"There's no family background in the sport - I just fell in love with greyhounds," she said.

"They're just the most amazing animals. They have their own personalities - every one of them is different.

"I find if I'm not around a greyhound for a while I really start to miss them. You really form a special bond with them.

"We have some pups coming through so I'm looking forward to working with them more.

Hopefully we can some good results like we've had so far with Centavos."

In the other heats, Costin has been racing solidly and looks capable of winning the second heat (race four).

She's Grand has been one of NSW's most consistent performers in 2017 and can score another victory in the third heat (race five).

Trained by Blacktown-based mentor Rodney O'Brien, She's Grand (box four) has won nine of her 13 starts since April and should be too good for tonight's opponents if at her best.

Asa Barboza is a class act and looks the top pick in the fourth heat (race six).

The Jodie Lord-trained greyhound has won 12 races, including three of his last five and is capable of defeating this field.
