Lochinvar Hugo Aiming To Strike Gold At Gosford

By Stuart Turner

Robert Smith will aim to win his second career Gosford Goldmine, with the Lake Macquarie trainer rugging up Lochinvar Hugo in the feature race tonight.

Lochinvar Hugo has box one for tonight’s Gosford Goldmine (race six, 515m) at the Central Coast track, with the greyhound a strong chance to collect the $5000 top prize.

Lochinvar Hugo won his heat last week in 29.62 in last week’s heats to extend his record to an ultra-consistent six wins and six minor placings from 13 starts.

Smith, who won the 2012 Gosford Goldmine with Lochinvar Curl, believes his contender this year is a good chance of landing him his second Gosford Goldmine.

“There’s some good greyhounds competing tonight but I don’t think it matters much what the rest of the field does,” Smith said.

“If (Lochinvar Hugo) gets a run to the first corner and performs how he can, I think he can wins this.

“He has been lightly raced over these last few months but he’s a very strong greyhound. He has no problems with this distance. He can lack a bit of early pace but he showed good sense last week to get to the first turn and ran well.

“If he can get that clear run then he should go well.

“I’m looking to step him back up to the 600 metres soon as he’s strong enough and I’d like to see him back at Wentworth Park again soon.”

In other action, Paua To Rush can score another win in a high-quality race nine (515m).

The Jodie van Enkhuysen-trained greyhound won over the 520m at Wentworth Park last Saturday night and looks well placed to go back-to-back tonight.

Kennelmate King Carmody looks the top pick jumping in the night’s 10th race (515m).

King Carmody finished fifth at Wentworth Park last start but saluted in a flashing 29.66 over this trip at LADBROKES GARDENS in May.

Talented short courser Bundah can round off the night’s racing with victory in race 11 (400m).

The son of Wentworth Park 520m track record holder Shakey Jakey and Whinging Wrench is making his Gosford debut but has scored some speedy wins over the 400m at LADBROKES GARDENS.
