Casino Abandoned

By Greyhound Racing NSW

Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) has regrettably had to abandon tonight's meeting at Casino.

The abandonment occurred as a result of the Casino Greyhound Club painting the kennel block on the day of the race meeting.

Fumes and chemical residue from the paint posed a significant welfare risk to the greyhounds who were to be housed in the kennels throughout the race meeting, leaving stewards no choice but to abandon the meeting.

In abandoning the meeting, GRNSW has expressed its extreme disappointment with the Casino Greyhound Club.

The club's decision to paint the kennel block on the day of the race meeting failed to consider the possible welfare consequences it would have on the greyhounds and also deprived participants, fans of the sport and people who wager on greyhounds a chance to participate in tonight's race meeting.

GRNSW will be making further inquiries to the Casino Greyhound Club in the coming days to ensure such an avoidable event never occurs again.

At this stage, it is anticipated that the meeting at Casino on Friday will proceed.
