Stars On Show For Ladbrokes Monthly Medal Final

By Jeff Collerson

The heart-stopping wins by Royal Turbo and She's Grand in the heats of the Ladbrokes Monthly Medal have set the scene for a group race quality final at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

In the first heat, Royal Turbo made full use of his rails draw to lead throughout, just lasting to beat the fast finishing Riley Tokaam by a head in 29.91.

Remarkably it was Royal Turbo's third box one draw at Wentworth Park in a week and he has shown his penchant for the red rug with two wins and a second.

She's Grand also revelled in her rails alley when she led all the way to beat comeback king Knight Sprite by a head in heat two, stopping the clock at 30.03.

The box draw for the Ladbrokes Monthly Medal, which will take place on Tuesday, will be crucial in the final as the other qualifiers are Red Four, Mainline Osti, Effective Comet and Mister Twister.

In other results at Wentworth Park on Saturday night, Shallay Pallay may have earned a trip to Victoria with kennelmate Set To Storm after his impressive all-the-way 29.81 win in a 520m 5th grade on Saturday night.

Trainer Jodie Van Enkhuyzen considers Set To Storm superior to her kennelmate and litter brother but Shallay Pallay's time on Saturday was the best of the night with his run home figures an outstanding 11.70.

“The Group 1 Maturity Classic heats at The Meadows on July 15 were on the radar for Set To Storm after she made the final of the Ladbrokes Peter Mosman Classic,” Van Enkhuyzen said.

“But Shallay Pallay's owner George Tsohalis is now keen to see him travel to Victoria with his other greyhound, Set To Storm.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Shire can lay claim to being Sydney's best stayer after giving Starzsa Light a big start and a beating over 720m.

Having only his second 720m test since a spell, Mr. Shire came from third with a lap to go to win by just on four lengths in 42.13, which was his personal best Wentworth Park for the 720m.

And Stench Of Power scored his second Wentworth Park win in 35 appearances on Saturday night, leading throughout in 30.29.

Stench Of Power is a true home-grown product of Wingello breeder Robert Arnold.

“I bred Stench Of Power from my former short course dog Coarse Language, who won over 40 races and was unbeaten at Dapto, and a female greyhound called Wow Pretty Girl,” Arnold said.

“Both Coarse Language and Wow Pretty Girl are still at home and are among my many pets, at 10 and nine years of age respectively.”

See you next week!
