Royal Turbo Ready To Rocket At Wentworth Park

By Stuart Turner

Group race winner Royal Turbo looks to have recaptured his best form following an impressive win at Wentworth Park on the weekend and the Glen McKinley-trained greyhound looks a good bet to take out race eight (520m) at the same track tonight.

Last year's Group 3 Christmas Gift winner (pictured), who exploded onto the racing scene with that victory over a top-drawer field on just his eighth start, jumps from box one tonight after a career-best 29.77 victory from the same draw at Wentworth Park last Saturday night.

McKinley said a change in routine had helped his greyhound rediscover his devastating ability.

"He was cramping in his last few starts," McKinley said.

"In the kennels before races he was getting very stirred up, which was affecting him badly in races. (However) we put him in a suit before the race last Saturday night and it worked wonders.

He ran the 520 metres without cramping and had a great win.

"It was very satisfying as we know he's a great talent who can run strong races. He just hasn't been able to show his best form because of the cramping.

"Hopefully his problems are behind him and he can enjoy a fine racing career from here."

Royal Turbo has already scored some notable wins in his young career, with seven Wentworth Park victories to his name.

As well as winning the Christmas Gift, he won a heat of the Golden Easter Egg in April and has also saluted in high-quality company at Melbourne's Sandown Park.

"With him, it's about whether he can get to the front," McKinley, based at Agnes Banks in Sydney's west, said. "If he gets there then he's very hard to chase down.

"He's matured since that Christmas Gift win and become a 'proper' racing greyhound.

"This is a tough race. Magic Spring in box two is a champion greyhound and is still capable of running some excellent times. Royal Turbo seems to enjoy his best form jumping from box one (though) and he should definitely be competitive."

In other action tonight,Corrupt Millions had no luck in last Saturday night's Group 1 Peter Mosman Classic but can atone in race six (520m).

The Jodie Lord-trained greyhound finished sixth in the Peter Mosman Classic, but had won three times and placed four times in his seven previous starts.

Red Sox Ethics returned to form at Wentworth Park last Saturday night and looks one of the night's safest bets jumping from box one in race seven (520m).

The David Smith-trained greyhound (box one) saluted for the first time in four starts with a 30.03 win from box eight four days ago and looks the clear top pick from the gun draw.

Ferrero Miss has been an excellent performer at bush tracks and can bring that form to Wentworth Park in race nine over the 520m.

One of the stars of the gun Paul Braddon kennel, Ferrero Miss is much better than her last start fourth place at Bathurst indicates and won the Wagga Gold Cup impressively two starts back over the 525m.
