Wedgewood Set For Polished Performance at Bulli

By Stuart Turner

In-form greyhound Wedgewood will have to overcome a tricky draw to continue his winning streak in the Ladbrokes Goulburn To Bulli final at Bulli tonight.

The Jim COLEMAN-trained greyhound jumps from box two in the feature event (race six, 472m) aiming for a fourth consecutive victory.

Wedgewood won over the 437m at MUDGEE at May 28 before recording two back-to-back wins over the 440m at Goulburn.

This is his first visit to the NSW Illawarra track but on current form he looks a good chance of saluting again.

“It took a while to get his confidence going but he’s matured into a decent prospect,” COLEMAN said.

“Unfortunately, I would have preferred him in a wider draw. If you look at his wins then you’ll see he likes to get round them.

“Having said that, Bulli is a big track which could suit him and he does get around them quickly. If he can do that here then he’s a chance.

“This is a step up on what he’s been racing again recently (and) I’m not overly confident but he is racing well and is improving. He’s got a chance.”

Tonight's final features many greyhounds who come into the race with decent form.

Fastest heat winner Jock Colley (box seven) has won his last two starts, including a sound 29.96 effort over the 520m at Bathurst last Monday and looks the biggest danger to Wedgewood.

Charlm Magic (box five), a handy newcomer for Richard Muscat, has won two of his four starts so far and is also a threat.

In other racing at Bulli tonight, newcomer Kingsbrae Cheeko looks the night’s best bet jumping from box two in the second heat of the Ladbrokes Bulli To Wentworth Park series (race nine, 472m).

A recent addition to the premier Mark Gatt kennel, Kingsbrae Cheeko has won six of his eight starts so far.

Lagoon Wilks, trained by Sharron Webster, looks the top pick in the night’s opening race – the mixed grade Ladbrokes Odds Boost Stakes (472m).

The well-bred son of Cosmic Rumble and Lagoon Lowanna clocked a smart 26.38 while winning over this trip last Saturday night.

Litter brother Lagoon Lucky can also score a victory for Webster in race five, another mixed grade event over 472m.

He has recorded two placings over the 400m at Bulli in decent times and looks to have the edge on most of the field he meets on Saturday.
