Fanta Bale has been made the favourite to take out the Ubet Gold Cup (710m) following the release of the fields for the three heats of the Group 1 series.
The Robert Britton-trained greyhound will jump from box eight in the first heat (race six) at Albion Park tonight as she aims for her fourth Group 1 victory for the year.
It will be the first race start for Fanta Bale at Albion Park, but she has looked extremely impressive since the start of April having won three races, including a thrilling win in the Group 1 Sandown Cup at the end of May.
Fanta Bale is currently $1.60 to win her heat and the $2.80 favourite to win the Gold Cup final with Sportsbet. In her heat, Fanta Bale will be up against Miss Foxy Lee (box five, $6), Alota Amy (box one, $6.50) and Ebby Ripper (box two, $8).
The next two lines of the betting for overall winner of the Gold Cup are dominated by the Geoffrey Scott-Smith-trained duo of Dundee Calypso and Dundee Osprey.
Dundee Calypso is the second favourite in the all-in market at $3. She will jump from box two in the third heat (race eight) in what will be her first race start since finishing fifth to Fanta Bale in the Sandown Cup.
Dundee Osprey, meanwhile, will jump from box three in the second heat (race seven) and is currently $3.50 in overall betting with Sportsbet.
Dundee Osprey also competed in the Sandown Cup, finishing a gallant second in the Group 1, and unlike her more fancied rivals has the benefit of race experience at Albion Park, having had two starts at the Brisbane track in early 2016.
The top from each heat as well the two fastest third placegetters will qualify for next week’s Group 1 Ubet Gold Cup where $75,000 awaits the winner.
Tonight at Albion Park also features five heats of the listed Ubet Flying Amy Classic series (520m), which features quality sprinters including Fast Times, Fire To Rain, Rather Dapper and Alpha Georgiou.
Racing at Albion Park gets underway at 6.46pm.
