Stars Look To Qualify At Grafton

Time is running out for greyhounds to qualify for the lucrative final of the Ladbrokes Up For The Challenge series, which will be held at Wentworth Park on June 17.

The top eight greyhounds over both sprinting and staying distances qualify for the $20,000 final by earning points in heats at tracks across the state.

Tonight’s meeting at Grafton provides the last opportunity for greyhounds to earn much-needed points and qualify for the final.

Among those in the staying division who are trying to make a last ditch attempt at qualifying is Mitcharlie Mia (pictured).

The Mitch Northfield-trained greyhound scored her first points of the series with a win at Grafton last week, however, she only sits 16th on the leaderboard and nothing short of a win will guarantee her place at Wentworth Park later this month.

She will jump from box six in the first staying heat of the night, which is race four on the program.

Other stayers lining up in the same race at Grafton hoping to increase their points tally is Midnight Treat (12th on the leaderboard), Kidatee Dan and Packey Keeping, who are both equal 17th on the leaderboard.

The Shayne Stiff-trained Simple Keeping is at the top of the stayers leaderboard and despite being ensured a spot at Wentworth Park on June 17, will take part in the second of the staying heats at Grafton (race nine).

Four heats of the sprinters series will also take part at Grafton tonight, with Denice Warren travelling all the way from her Goulburn base to cement spots for Quoted Dynasty and Something New in the final.

Quoted Dynasty is fifth on the standings, but will have to be at his best jumping from box four in the second sprinters heat (race six).

Something New, meanwhile who is currently eighth on the leaderboard, looks a good bet jumping from box two in the third sprinters heat (race seven).

The Wayne White-trained Awesome Danny is currently at the top of the leaderboard for the sprinters and will not contest the heats at Grafton this evening.

Racing kicks off at Grafton this evening at 7.14pm. View the full fields and expert form here.
