Mr. Shire To Be Stepped Up In Distance

Mr. Shire, who last Wednesday staged one of the most best performances seen at Wentworth Park this year, will contest a best eight 720m event at the Sydney track on Saturday night.

Trainer Bob McColm reluctantly nominated Mr. Shire (pictured) for a 520m race last week and after being last at the first turn, seventh at the half-way mark, and fifth on the home bend, the greyhound won running away by nearly two lengths.

"His run home time last week was the second fastest ever posted at Wenty, with Shakey Jakey, when he recorded track record time of 29.07 over three years ago, the only greyhound to go quicker," McColm said.

Mr. Shire, who has won 15 of 25 starts, holds the track record for 600m at The Gardens, and has won over 720m at Wentworth Park.

"I can't wait to see how he goes over the long distance again at Wenty on Saturday," McColm said.

Meanwhile Mr. Shire's talented littermates - Forced Exit and Dodgy Exit - are likely to be seen in town soon.

"I slipped Dodgy Exit post to post at Wentworth Park last Wednesday night and he clocked 24.50," McColm said.

"He recorded a near record 29.28 in his 515m performance trial at The Gardens but has lost that edge as he has got older and I intend stepping him up to a middle distance. And I gave Forced Exit a long-distance hit-out at Wentworth Park during last Wednesday's trials and she went well enough."
