Rice Sensing A Big Win At Richmond

By Jeff Collerson

Six Sense missed the jump when fourth at Richmond last week and the Loretta Rice-trained greyhound might be better off if she repeats that trait in tonight's 4/5th grade Evolution Windows Stakes (race seven, 618m) at the Londonderry circuit.

Six Sense has box two and looks a class above her rivals providing she can avoid the wide running Amy Parker, who has drawn the rails, at box rise.

“My greyhound has been runner-up over 535m at Richmond but has not raced over the 618m trip,” Rice said.

“The lure at Richmond is very quiet and Six Sense missed the jump last Friday night. The only track where she seems to begin consistently is Wentworth Park.”

Trainer Michael Clayton is confident his greyhound Stem can take out tonight's Goulburn To Richmond Final (race two, 400m).

Stem's five wins have been on roomier tracks such as Bulli, Maitland and Goulburn, but Clayton believes the greyhound will handle Richmond.

Stem has had a look at Richmond in a trial and will have no trouble with the track,” Clayton said.

“And he has drawn perfectly in box one. Even if he happens to dwell at the start, Stem should get a lovely run along the fence because Falcon Flies, who has box two, is a wide runner.”

Pastizzi Pitzi has been on his best behaviour out of the starting boxes but trainer John Callaughan concedes he will need to reproduce those box manners in tonight's 4/5th grade Angosutra LLB Stakes (race six, 400m).

Pastizzi Pitzi led throughout to run the fastest time of the night over 400m at Gosford on May 23 after being placed at his two previous starts, over 400m at Bulli.

“He has box four and a middle draw from a bend start like the Richmond 400m trip is always a concern,” Callaughan said.

“But Pastizzi Pitzi has been flying out. He began well when he was placed at Richmond on April 29 and May 20 and came out running when he won at Gosford at his latest start.

“The 400m journey is ideal for him because I don't think he will see out a longer distance.”

Tonight's strongest 535m event is the 4/5th grade electriciansupplies.com.au Stakes (race four) which features the clash between Victor Charlie and Winsome Mission.

Victor Charlie beat all but the placegetters in last week's Richmond Riches Final after chasing home Fast Times in his semi-final.

And Winsome Mission stormed home to defeat Expressive at Wentworth Park on May 27.

Victor Charlie and Winsome Mission are at their best on the Richmond circuit but Victor Charlie's superior early pace could tip the scales in his favour.
