Zambora Cross Back On Track

By Jeff Collerson

Zambora Cross, who threw away a race at Wentworth Park on May 10 when she failed to go straight near the winning post, has come through her clearance trial with flying colours.

Zambora Cross trialled over 520m at Wentworth Park last Wednesday night and trounced Lucky Whip, a winner of five from 15 provincial starts, and Ricky Boy, a city winner, by 10 lengths.

Her winning time of 29.95 compared well with her personal best Wentworth Park time of 29.78, which was posted on April 9.

Zambora Cross has had 15 Wentworth Park starts for five wins and five placings and until racing erratically near the finish when beaten a head on May 10, had been a model of consistency.

She is now back in the firing line for the heats of the Group 1 Peter Mosman Classic at Wentworth Park on June 3.

Most consistent greyhound in 2017 is arguably Tijuana Icon, who has won seven of 10 starts.

Tijuana Icon, who does not turn three until next month, has won 17 of 29 races in total and is almost invincible at Nowra, where she has won nine of 11 appearances over 365m.

The Marien Sullivan-trained greyhound will contest race nine at Goulburn tomorrow and could soon be a surprise nomination over 520m at Dapto.

“She might struggle over 520m at Wentworth Park but Dapto is an easier run and we think Tijuana Icon will see out the trip there,” Sullivan's husband Robert said.

“In her recent short course wins she has been coming away from her rivals going into the catching pen.”

Tijuana Icon is bred to get 520m as her dam, the Sullivan-trained Classy Icon, not only won over 520m at Wentworth Park but was successful over 600m at Dapto.
