Peter Mosman Contenders On Display At WP

Giant greyhound Tiempo Dinero will almost certainly earn a start in Saturday week's 66th running of the Group 1 Peter Mosman Classic if he can win first-up at Wentworth Park tonight.

Tiempo Dinero, who took out the Nowra Summer Puppy Classic on April 24, makes his city debut from box three in race three – the 5th grade Ladbrokes.com.au stakes (520m).

“His owner is keen to see him go around in the Classic heats but it will depend on how Tiempo Dinero goes this week,” the greyhound’s trainer Donna Campbell said.

“Early in his career Tiempo Dinero, who races at around 40kg, was better on bigger tracks but he has learned to handle tighter courses.

“When he had his first trial at Wentworth Park he took 30.80 to run the 520m, but when I put him around Wenty after the last race last Wednesday night he clocked 30.20, which is a huge improvement.”

Another greyhound targeting the Peter Mosman Classic is consistent greyhound Chase The Cash, who has box eight in race one – a 4/5th grade (520m).

Chase The Cash was an unlucky third from box eight at Wentworth Park last Wednesday after registering three wins and two placings from her previous seven starts at the track.

While Chase The Cash tackled a solid top grade line-up last Wednesday night she drops in class this week and should win.

The greyhound’s trainer Craig Watts said is disappointed Chase The Cash has drawn wide, but believes she will still be hard to beat.

Chase The Cash pulled up well after last week's race and since then she has only had a couple of free gallops to top her off, so she is nice and fresh,” Watts said.

Best value tonight should be Comatose, who has been runner-up in two of five Wentworth Park outings and has box six in race four – a 5th grade event (520m).

Comatose’s trainer Mark Davidson believes his greyhound just needs to get a decent run through the first turn and will be hard to beat.

“He does not have a lot of early speed but Comatose is a momentum dog who will keep coming home strongly,” Davidson said.

The Dapto To Wenty Final (race two, 520m) looks to be between likely pacemakers Explosive Brown (box six) and Mcdiesel (box four).

Explosive Brown is the fastest qualifier after leading throughout from box eight to win her heat at Dapto in 29.89.

At her only Wentworth Park start Explosive Brown missed the jump but showed good early speed to be third in the middle stages before tiring at the finish.

She raced wide in that event so is well positioned out in box six on tonight.

But Mcdiesel, who finished fourth in the 297m Dapto Puppy Auction Classic final in January, will be hard to beat for the early lead.

He led throughout to win his Dapto heat in 30.27 when he was tackling the 520m for only the fourth time.

“I have only recently got Mcdiesel racing beyond 300m so he is getting stronger all the time,” trainer Gary Eslick said.

“He has not raced or been trialled at Wentworth Park but I'm hoping he can jump in front and lead all the way because he is the first starter I have had in the city since I began training greyhounds a year ago.”
