Kyra Miss Gives Bamback First Wenty Winner

By Jeff Collerson

Kyra Miss was a gift to owner-trainer Michael Bamback and on Saturday night she gave him his first Wentworth Park winner in 20 years in the sport.

Kyra Miss did it in style, leading from the first turn to score a runaway win in the 520m 5th grade event in 29.96, which was clearly the fastest time of the night.

Before Saturday night Kyra Miss had been placed in five of nine Wentworth Park starts but when she drew box eight and dropped in class Bamback was confident.

And Kyra Miss finally nailed the jump, zipping around pacemaker Snooker as she negotiated the first corner.

Owner Fred Anthes bought Aisle Tifi for $6000 as a breeding female but the greyhound, who has become Sydney's fastest beginner under trainer Owen Langley, has earned more than $72,000 following her all-the-way 4/5th grade victory on Saturday night.

Aisle Tifi, a four-and-a-half year old veteran, again came out under the lids and ran her rivals ragged to win by three lengths in 30.32.

"I was going to retire her after she finished second to Mister Twister at Wenty on April 22 but Owen and I decided to give her one more campaign," Anthes said.

"When Aisle Tifi next comes in season I will breed from her and have a Where's Pedro straw waiting."

Langley added: "Aisle Tifi does not possess a great first split but she is a fantastic beginner and if she can hold the lead until the top turn at Wentworth Park she always runs home in 12 seconds, so she is not weak at the finish."

The Gardens trial watchers fell over themselves to back Patch Adam in his 520m 5th grade on Saturday night after seeing the Max Rimmer-trained greyhound scorch the track last Monday.

"Because last Saturday's Wentworth Park meeting was called off after five racesPatch Adam needed a run so I slipped him post-to-post at The Gardens 48 hours later and he clocked 24.19," Rimmer said.

"All the regulars there said no greyhound had ever gone quicker than around 24.22 so I was reasonably confident tonight."

Patch Adam, a slow beginner, went fast to be second at the first turn but was checked by the tiring Canya Bounce as he strode to the lead leaving the back straight.

Patch Adam regained his balance, held the lead approaching the home bend, and went to the line strongly to win comfortably in 30.40.

See you next week!
