Beside The Truth A Real Chance At Goulburn

By Stuart Turner

Unbeaten greyhound Beside The Truth faces his toughest test to date in Tuesday's feature final at Goulburn but trainer Peter Sims believes his new kennel star is up to the task.

Beside The Truth jumps from box six in a high-calibre race eight (440m) aiming to make it five wins from his first five starts.

After scoring two wins over the 320m at his local Wagga track, Beside The Truth scored an impressive victory at Goulburn on April 11.

The greyhound then made it four from four with a hard-fought 25.22 triumph from box six at Goulburn last week and Sims thinks his exciting talent can improve from the same draw today.

“He can definitely run a better time,” Sims, who is based in the tiny town of Illabo, said.

“Good greyhounds have got to learn to win from any box  and I know whichever box he comes from, he will put his best foot forward.

“I thought last week’s run was a gutsy effort. Because of an injury I hadn’t been able to give him any work, so I was delighted he won as he did.

“This is a tough race but I think he can win.”

The tough field in today’s competitive race includes Udon Boy (box three), a winner of three of his six starts so far who clocked a smart 25.16 from this same draw last week.

Udon Boy looks to have plenty of ability,” Sims said.

“If Udon Boy hits trouble then I’d like to think mine is capable of a good show, but if Udon Boy gets out okay, I’m in trouble.

“Beside The Truth is doing everything for me at the moment (though). He’ll become a nice greyhound for sure.”

Sims is also expecting an improved run from his greyhound Black Meteorite, who jumps from box one in the race nine (350m).

Black Meteorite returned from a five-month injury-enforced spell with a placing over the same trip at Goulburn last week.

This tricky race includes Little Whacko (box five), who also placed over this distance last week, and Titan Sprite (box seven).

“I put (Black Meteorite) in (last week’s race) rather than giving him a trial beforehand,” Sims said.

“He’ll be much better for that run last week and I think he can place in this.”

Busted Custard looks the day’s best bet jumping from box eight in race seven (440m).

The William Turnbull-trained greyhound has gone unplaced in his last two starts but was a sound winner from this draw at Goulburn three starts back and can win with a good beginning today.

Country Commet (box five) and Honey I’m Home (box eight) also look like good  winning chances in races 10 and 11 respectively.
