Aston Dee Bee Ready To Fly At Maitland

By Stuart Turner

Aston Dee Bee - fresh from breaking the Bulli 472m track record - will be on the quick back-up when he lines up at Maitland on Thursday afternoon.

The Jason Mackay-trained greyhound clocked 25.78 on his way to smashing the previous record of 25.85 set by Sandave Prince in 2015 at Bulli last Saturday night, and looks well placed to make it two wins in a row in race six today (450m).

Aston Dee Bee will jump from box four, a draw in which he has won all three of his previous starts, and continue Mackay’s good run of form over the past week, which has included three winners at Bulli last Saturday and four at Unibet Gardens on Tuesday night.

In other action at Maitland today, Bundah looks the top pick in the second of two heats of the Mother’s Day Necklace Series (race five, 400m).

Trained by Susan Smith at Branxton in the NSW Hunter Valley, Bundah (box two) has won his last three starts after returning from a five-month spell.

“I’m ecstatic with his form,” Smith said.

“He usually jumps well and is capable of running strong second sectionals and coming home fast as well. He looks the complete package.

“This is a tricky race but on his current form and with this draw then I have every confidence in him.”

Despite Bundah’s recent form, Smith, who has been training for 40 years, believes greyhound racing fans should see more improvement in him.

“I will tell you one thing as well – you haven’t seen the best of him yet. I think he’s capable of improving and I expect him go over further.

“I think Bundah has a lot of potential and I’m really excited with how he’s going.”

Squizzy Buzzard (box seven) is one of the most consistent performers around at the moment and looks the top pick in the first heat of the Mother’s Day Necklace Series (race three, 400m).

The Ben Sweetman-trained greyhound has finished in the placings at his last 13 starts and looks well placed to continue that trend today.

Black Jack Opal is building a handy record and looks the top pick from box eight in heat three (race seven, 400m), while Ninja Thommo (box four) scored a sound placing at Maitland last start and can triumph in heat four (race nine, 400m).
