Mitcharlie Mia Returns At Grafton

By Stuart Turner

Group winning greyhound Mitcharlie Mia is the headline act at tonight’s Grafton meeting.

Mitcharlie Mia (pictured), who won last year’s Group 2 Richmond Oaks and was a finalist in the 2016 Golden Easter Egg, jumps from box six in the Best 8 Ladbrokes Stakes (race five, 610m).

The greyhound has returned to Mitch Northfield’s kennel after six months in the care of premier Victorian mentor Anthony Azzopardi.

Mitcharlie Mia scored some fine results under Azzopardi’s care, including winning over the 600m at The Meadows at her last start on April 22.

She also saluted in a heat of this year’s Group 2 Richmond Oaks in March but had no luck in the final, finishing fifth.

The tough opposition in this race includes Kidatee Dan (box three), a winner of his last five starts, and classy greyhound Nangar Thunder, who has a good record at Grafton.

Mitcharlie Mia has a super record at Grafton, with three wins and a placing from four previous visits, however, this will be her first start at the track since November 2015 and her first attempt at the 610m.

Meanwhile, impeccably bred Amber Ale (box six) looks the top pick in the night’s other feature race, the Ladbrokes Easter Maiden Final (race seven, 407m).

An impeccably bred daughter of champion Fernando Bale and former Grafton track specialist Scissor Queen, Amber Ale won her heat last week in a smart 23.26 and looks to have the clear time advantage on this field.

Two Jay (box four) is another eye-catching newcomer and she can score another victory in the Grafton Radio Taxis Stakes (race six, 407m).

The greyhound won over this trip earlier this year in a flying 22.78 and has the solid overall record of six wins and five minor placings from 13 starts so far.

Hummin’ Gun (box seven) improved with a placing over the 480m at Casino last Friday and looks capable of winning the night’s Free-For-All over the 407m (race 10).
