Mackay Has Strong Hand At The Gardens

By Stuart Turner

Star trainer Jason MACKAY could continue his kennel's good run of form, with the leading trainer looking to have four standout chances at Tuesday night's meeting at The Gardens.

MACKAY scored a treble at Bulli last Saturday night and looks to have standout chances at the meeting with Zipping Chang (race three, 515m), Zipping Beau (race five, 515m), Riley Tokaam (race eight, 515m) and Paddy’s Magic in race nine over the 515m.

Zipping Chang jumps from box seven aiming for a third successive victory after two recent flying triumphs over the 450m at Maitland.

The son of Magic Sprite and Cho Chang clocked a devastating 24.94 last start and looks the clear top pick in this race.

Litter mate Zipping Beau (box six) has won two of three starts so far, including a speedy 29.84 triumph over this trip on March 31.

He clocked an impressive 26.56 while winning over the 472m at Bulli last Saturday night and looks capable of triumphing in this company.

Riley Tokaam (box two) faces a quality field over the 515m but can improve on his career record of three wins and four minor placings from 10 starts.

The son of Don’t Knocka Him and Skyela Tokaam has gone unplaced in his last two starts but clocked a dazzling 29.49 over this trip last month and also won impressively from this box at the Gardens in March.

Paddy’s Magic (box three) also faces a tough field but has run well since joining MACKAY’s kennel recently and can salute again.

The son of Magic Sprite and Ima Geisha Girl has scored one win and two minor placings in four starts since transferring from the premier Jason Thompson kennel in Victoria and is a class act at his best.

Meanwhile, in-form Key Lexus can make it four wins in a row with victory in the Steve Whalland Race Images Stakes (race 10, 400m).

The daughter of Glen Gallon and Key Missile scored two placings in her first nine starts but has since scored three successive victories – all over the 400m at the Gardens.

She scored her latest win last Friday night in a smart 23.01 and looks well drawn to salute again for trainer Lindsay Davis, a qualified personal trainer from the Hunter Valley.

“It’s very strange – it’s like the penny finally dropped with her,” Davis said. “She’s going great guns.

“I think all the litter are late bloomers (but) she has certainly found her form.

“When she had the three box (two starts ago) she slammed the start and ran a best of the night time, so she looks  well drawn in this race. She’s also loving her racing as well – she’s prancing around and really enjoying herself.

“It’s  a tough race but on her current form I’ve got to be confident.”

Others to watch at the Gardens look like Ya Against Me (race seven, box one) and Zipping Bosco, who has the rails draw in race 11.
