Ladies Bracelet Wide Open After Box Draw

By Jeff Collerson

The Group 3 Evans & Son Jewellers Ladies Bracelet has been thrown wide open with fastest heat winners Dawn Mini and Zambora Cross drawing poorly in Saturday night's final at Wentworth Park.

Dawn Mini, who set the time standard in last Saturday night's heats with an all-the-way win from box one in 30 seconds flat, drew box five.

And "miss consistency" Zambora Cross, who also exited box one before running down Good Odds Angel in 30.02, drew box six.

The prized rails draw went to She's Grand, and when the 30.11 heat winner came up with the inside trap, her trainer Rodney O'Brien let out a whoop of joy.

"Although She's Grand had box six in her heat win I felt she needed an inside draw, box one, two or three, if she was to take out the final," O'Brien said.

She's Grand, once considered suspect at running a strong 400m at Richmond, again displayed improved stamina to give Nana Road a start and a beating in her heat.

Slowest heat winner was the Kayla-Jane COLEMAN-trained Cardiology, who overcame a slow start and a mid-race check to flash home home and win in 30.33.

Cardiology got up to beat pacemaker Lagoon Jazzy, the Golden Easter Egg ruunner-up, by a half head.

"She did it the hard way from box seven so we wanted box one in the final," COLEMAN's partner Shaun Evans said.

Cardiology drew box four in next Saturday's $25,000 to the winner final and as she gets back in her races she will need luck in running.

Sharron and Ray Webster won the 2013 Ladies Bracelet with Lagoon Lowanna, and their 2017 representative Lagoon Jazzy has drawn nicely in box two.

"I wore the bracelet trophy I won with Lagoon Lowanna to bring me luck tonight and it did because while Lagoon Jazzy did not quite win, she made the final," Sharron Webster said.

Disappointed at the final draw was Good Odds Angel's trainer Frank Hurst with his greyhound drawing box three.

Good Odds Angel set a scorching pace from box seven before being defeated by Zambora Cross and Hurst was hoping for an outside alley with his wide running greyhound.

Full box draw for the Ladies Bracelet is: 1. She's Grand 2. Lagoon Jazzy 3. Good Odds Angel 4. Cardiology 5. Dawn Mini 6. Zambora Cross 7. Bold Opal 8. Nana Road. Reserves: 9. Kyra Miss 10. Utah Miss.

Fastest time of the night last Saturday was posted by fifth grader Mr Vuitton, who led throughout in 29.85 after recording sizzling middle splits of 13.73 and 17.78.

"I wasn't surprised he went so fast when he jumped cleanly and led around the first turn because Mr Vuitton is very quick and had trialled similar time previously at Wentworth Park," trainer Paul Roderick said.

Chevy King will target next month's Group 1 Peter Mosman Classic after leading throughout in Saturday night's Free-For-All.

The Christine Proctor-trained front-runner notched his fourth successive Wentworth Park win and is the perfect age for the Peter Mosman, which gets under way with heats on June 3.

Proctor won the 2014 Peter Mosman with Bessy Boo and rates Chevy King a great chance this year.

"I can't believe how he keeps improving," Proctor said on Saturday night.

"I didn't think he could win the New Sensation final on Golden Easter Egg night but he did, then when he stepped up to top grade at Wenty on April 22 he won again.

"Tonight he was in top grade again but went from box one last week to box six so once more I didn't think he could do the trick. But he surprised me yet again by leading all the way."

Consistent stayer Miss Foxy Lee notched her eighth Wentworth Park 720m win, leading throughout in her personal best time of 42.02.

And Zambra Icon broke through for her first Wentworth Park win on Saturday night after being placed in six of her previous 11 races at headquarters.

See you next week!
