Lagoon Jazzy To Play Right Tune In Bracelet Heat

By Jeff Collerson

Lagoon Jazzy was a $41 chance when she went within a half head of pulling off one of greyhound racing's biggest upsets in the Golden Easter Egg, but she will be the punters' pin-up at Wentworth Park on Saturday night when she contests a heat of the Group 3 Evans & Son Jewellers Ladies Bracelet series.

The Sharron Webster-trained greyhound (pictured, pink rug) made the pace before going down in a tight photo finish to Striker Light in the Golden Easter Egg at her most recent start and the greyhound chases more group race glory this week.

She has box five in heat two (race six) of the Ladies Bracelet series, but connections are not concerned about her middle draw.

"Lagoon Jazzy recorded first and second splits of 5.39 and 13.89 in the Golden Easter Egg and if she runs those sections on Saturday night she should lead and win," Webster's husband Ray said.

"We haven't put her against the clock since the Golden Easter Egg but she is going well and looked impressive in a trial up the straight at Appin last Saturday."

Most interesting runner in the Ladies Bracelet heats is boom Victorian greyhound Suffragette">Suffragette, who has box eight in heat one (race four).

Suffragette has had 17 races for eight wins and seven placings and took out the $150,000 to the winner  Launching Pad at Sandown at her latest outing on April 22.

"Box eight is not a good draw for any greyhound having its first race at Wentworth Park but our greyhound has a strong chance," Steve White, whose wife Kerrie trains Suffragette, said.

"She trialled 30.20 at Wentworth Park last Saturday night and considering she stumbled coming out of the boxes and star-gazed going through the catching pen we were satisfied with her time.

"On top of that, Suffragette had just climbed out of the car after an 11 hours drive from our kennels at Buln Buln."

Trainer Jodie Lord is enjoying a tremendous year and heads to Wentworth Park on Saturday night with four strong chances.

Lord will rug up Asa Barboza (box eight, race one), Zambora Cross (box one, race seven), Crash Bandicoot (box three, race nine) and Corrupt Millions (box two, race 10).

The Gunning-based trainer rates Zambora Cross, who tackles heat four of the Ladies Bracelet, as the pick of her quartet.

"Zambora Cross does not know how to run a bad race," Lord said.

"She is a reliable beginner and from box one she should be in front for a long way. Asa Barboza is chasing his 10th win in 19 starts and while box eight is not ideal he has the ability to win from any draw.

"Crash Bandicoot and Corrupt Millions will be having their first look at Wentworth Park but that doesn't mean they can't win.

"Crash Bandicoot is an up-and-coming young greyhound with a lot of ability and plenty of early pace. He has won four from seven at the provincials while Corrupt Millions has won four from 10 races in the bush.

"Corrupt Millions is very quick early but he is a bit weak at the finish of 520 metres at this stage."

A strong sidelight to the Ladies Bracelet heats is race eight - the final of the Moreira @ Stud Series (520m) - featuring greyhounds which qualified in heats last Saturday night.

Jody Lee Kade made all the running before being run down by Rita's Boy in her heat but with early speed a big asset in finals she will be good value from box five in the run-off.
