Neeky's Way In Prime Position For Futurity

By Stuart Turner

Neeky’s Way looks capable of using her box one draw to good effect in tonight’s Group 2 Bogie Leigh Futurity (race seven, 520m) at Albion Park.

The John Dart-trained greyhound looks a tempting $3.30 chance with Sportsbet to win the $40,000 top prize after scoring the prized rails draw in what looks a hugely competitive final.

One of the stars of the renowned Northern Rivers Dart kennel in NSW, Neeky’s Way scored a sound 30.02 victory in last week’s heats from box seven.

That victory was built on a blistering first sectional run and with one win and two placings in three previous starts wearing the red rug, she looks well positioned to win the decider.

Dart has two finalists this evening, with Spare Cash ($4.20), jumping from box four following her second place finish in her heat.

Favourite for tonight’s Bogie Leigh Futurity is Joyce Rumble (box seven) who is $3 with Sportsbet. Joyce Rumble made it seven wins from eight starts with her 29.98 heat win from the same box last week and looks the biggest threat to Dart taking home the Futurity trophy.

Magic Hornet (box two, $9) ran 30.21 last week and looks capable of improving by a couple of lengths from this draw, while Lockety Brin (box three, $6) is arguably the best value chance.

Lockety Brin is in astute hands with trainer Darren Russell and ran a decent 30.17 last week while narrowly beaten by Neeky’s Way.

Precious To Me (box five, $23), Invergarry Lady (box six, $31) and Bikini Cloud (box eight, $12) in box eight complete the field.

The night’s racing also features five heats of the $40,000-to-the-winner Group 2 Queensland Derby over the 520m.

NSW star Patch Adam, who ran a dazzling 29.55 at Wentworth Park two starts back, looks one to watch jumping from box seven in the third heat.

This is his first look at Albion Park but he is a brilliant talent at his best and if he gets right will be hard to stop in this race.

Jury (box four), a newcomer from the star local kennel of Tony Brett, also looks a strong chance for the series in heat two.

Jury has scored seven wins and four minor placings from 14 starts so far, including an impressive best of 30.00 over this trip.

He has been sidelined for more than two months but is a special talent and if fully fit can win against this field.

Others to watch in the heats include Lismore 420m track record holder Fast Times (box four, heat one), Cosmic Bonus (box eight, heat four), who ran an outstanding 29.65 at Wentworth Park last month and last year’s Group 3 Christmas Gift winner Royal Turbo (box five, heat five).

The five heat winners and three fastest placegetters progress to next Thursday’s final.
