Kenny's Shadow Looks A Bright Chance At Goulburn

By Stuart Turner

Jeff Stedman’s careful approach with Kenny’s Shadow could pay off again with the greyhound a winning chance in today’s Young to Goulburn Final (race 11, 350m) at Goulburn.

Kenny’s Shadow qualified for today’s race with a win at Young earlier in the month and tuned up nicely for the final with a gallant second at Wagga on Friday.

The greyhound was the second fastest qualifier for the final and lines up in good form, having scored three wins and two minor placings in his last eight starts.

For Stedman, he is delighted that his greyhound is back in form after a below-par spell.

“He just wasn’t looking right,” Stedman said.

“I told the owner we should get his thyroid looked at. We got it sorted and since then he’s gone very well - I couldn’t be happier with him.

“He may not be the strongest greyhound but he’s always been a fairly consistent performer at country tracks and can put in a good race on his day.

“He’s raced a lot recently but he’s looking in perfect condition for this race and he’s got a chance.”

Kenny’s Shadow looks well drawn in box one today, having scored one win and one placing on his two previous starts wearing the red rug.

Biggest danger to Kenney’s Shadow is Monster Black (box eight) who was the fastest heat qualifier with a smart 19.83 run and has won two of his three previous starts from box eight.

Little Whacko also looks a danger from box four, but Stedman is confident of his greyhound’s chance.

“He’s got the right box and he usually jumps pretty well, which should help,” the Kingsvale trainer said.

“It’s competitive final and it’s anything can happen – it’s greyhound racing - but I’m fairly confident he can go well.”

In-form duo Tijuana Icon and Falcon Flies look strong chances in races five and six respectively, which are heats  of the Goulburn To Richmond Series over the 350m.

Short course specialist Tijuana Icon (box six) made it three wins in four starts with a smart win over the 297m at Dapto last Thursday night and has a good record from the middle boxes.

Falcon Flies (box one) clocked 17.93 winning from box two over the 310m at Canberra two starts back and is a reliable performer at country tracks, with five wins and 13 minor placings from 29 starts.

Fullstop Period (box seven) is another greyhound in good form and he looks capable of triumphing in race 10 over the 400m.

The Joseph Scerri-trained greyhound is a city class greyhound and has scored four wins and three minor placings in seven races since the start of 2017.
