Sheza Pretzel Looking A Sweet Puppy Classic Chance

By Stuart Turner

Littermates Sheza Pretzel and Tiny Terror look ones to watch in Monday’s Group 3 Ladbrokes Summer Puppy Classic (520m) heats at Nowra.

Local star Panel Beater and Another Gangster could also be ones to watch in the $25,000-to-the-winner series, one of the biggest races of the year at the NSW South Coast track.

Sheza Pretzel clocked a decent 30.71 win on her first race over the 520m at Nowra last week for western Sydney owner-trainer Cheryl Betts.

The daughter of Spring Gun and Pretzel has the modest record of two wins and three minor placings from nine starts but has won over the 350m at Goulburn and has saluted once and placed twice in her last three starts.

Tiny Terror finished fifth on her first look at Nowra last Monday but has been racing well at Maitland, clocking  some smart wins at the Hunter Valley track over the 400m.

She has built the consistent overall record of five and wins and four minor placings from 13 starts  and should be stronger for that unsuccessful run over the 520m.

Panel Beater (box one, heat two) has been below-par on his last two starts but looks a standout contender in the series, which is open to greyhounds whelped between January 1, 2015 and June 30, 2015.

Trained by local mentor Garry Edwards, Panel Beater has run a flying 29.87 at the track and has built the decent record of five wins and eight minor placings from 19 starts.

Others to watch include in-form Big Black (box six, heat one), Cor Caroli (box six, heat three) and Another Gangster, who jumps from box three in the fourth heat.

Another Gangster, from the local Tracey Bryant kennel, has scored eight wins from 16 starts so far and clocked a very smart 30.13 over this trip last Monday.

Best value chance for the series could be Road Trip, who jumps from box two in the fourth heat.

The son of Oaks Road and Lake Jewel has landed in arguably the hardest heat on paper and has not raced for two months but won over this trip in  January, clocking a competitive 20.87.

The four heat winners and two runners-up progress to the final of the series, which takes place next Monday.
