Bogie Bekim Primed For Association Cup

By Jeff Collerson

Fastest heat qualifier  Bogie Bekim looks ideally drawn to take out the Group 1 Association Cup (720m) at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

The South Australian contender goes into Saturday night's final from box two after winning his heat last week in a hugely impressive 41.96.

Bogie Bekim already has one Group 1 title to his name after scoring a terrific victory in WA's Sky Racing Galaxy earlier this year.

He faces a class field of opponents here but trainer Ben Rawlings is confident his greyhound can score the $75,000 top prize.

"I would have preferred him drawn on the outside as while Bogie Bekim is not a wide runner, he likes to get room to move,"  Rawlings said.

"But looking at the way the draw has fallen box two should work out fine.

"Miss Foxy Lee, who has box one, is the likely early leader and there is not a lot of speed on the outside of Bogie Bekim.

"He will run in a direct line from the boxes to the first corner and from what I've seen of Trip To Eden, the other heat winner who has box three, he will do the same."

Bogie Bekim is $2.60 favourite with Ladbrokes to win the Association Cup, with Trip To Eden at $2.80

Trip To Eden, who won the other heat in 42.22, has box three for Saturday's final.

His owner, Newcastle breeder Steve Connor, is happy with his greyhound's draw.

"He went around the outside of his rivals when he won his heat from box six but Trip To Eden only did that because there was no room on the rails," Connor said.

"Trip To Eden is an extremely smart dog and if there is a rails run at the first turn he will take it."

The Michael Eberand-trained Ebby Ripper is a $5 chance after finishing second to Bogie Bekim in her heat.

In other action at Wentworth Park on Saturday night, the Jane Carruthers-trained Wise Owl is $3.50 favourite to win the Group 3 Ladbrokes Magic Maiden after going through the series undefeated to date.

Wise Owl will jump from box six more than a week after winning his semi-final in 29.90.

The Maxwell Rimmer-trained Patch Adam (box three) is favourite to win the Group 3 Young Sensation after his best of night 29.55 win in his semi-final.
