Utah Miss Primed For Victory

By Jeff Collerson

Utah Miss has been competing against crackerjacks like Falcon's Fury and Brad Hill Billy at the provincials so should relish tackling 5th grade opposition in tonight's fifth event - a heat of the wentworthpark.com.au Stakes (520m).

A winner of 10 from 24 races, Utah Miss failed to finish at her only Wentworth Park outing in October, but did defeat a star-studded field at Richmond at her most recent race on March 31.

"She is flying at the moment and drawing close to the rails in box three on Wednesday is a bonus," her trainer Joe Satti said.

"Utah Miss found awful trouble at her only Wenty race but she showed she has taken no harm from that setback by trialling extra well there two weeks ago. Before her March 31 win at Richmond in the best time of the night, I hand-slipped her at that track and she ran home in 14.20, which is excellent time."

Utah Miss is a member of the outstanding litter whelped by Ebby Miss in February 2015, which also includes top stayer Ebby Miss and the dashing sprinter Ebby Chance.

Satti has bright prospects of training a winning double at Wentworth Park as his tough stayer Madliena Girl has strong claims in race two - a 4/5th grade event (720m).

Madliena Girl is facing a line-up of mostly rookie stayers, but is an accomplished long-distance performer at Wentworth Park herself where she has registered three wins and 14 placings over the 720m trip.

"She has drawn five but that doesn't matter because she gets back in the field early so boxes don't matter to her," Satti said.

"Madliena Girl finished down the course in a heat of the Group 1 Association Cup at Wentworth Park on Saturday night but she was short of a run in that event because she had not started over 720m since December.

"Wednesday's race is a lot easier than a Group 1 heat."

Madliena Girl's toughest rival looms as Zipping Hondo, who has been given a thorough preparation for his 720m debut by trainer Darryl Prestwidge.

"I hand-slipped Zipping Hondo over 650m at Wenty recently and he went well enough to indicate that if he is second or third down the back straight on Wednesday he will be hard to beat," Prestwidge said.

"On February 24 Zipping Hondo defeated three good greyhounds, Golden Zipper, Lovelace and Old Timer, over 618m at Richmond, and while one can never be sure a greyhound will run a strong 720m first-up he gives the impression that he will."

Zipping Hondo knows his way around Wentworth Park where he has contested five races over 520m for a win and two seconds.

One of tonight's safest bets should be Good Odds Angel, who is chasing her 11th Wentworth Park win in race eight - a free-for-all (520m).

The Frank Hurst-trained greyhound has had four starts since a spell, winning her past three, all over 400m at Richmond, in succession.

Good Odds Angel is a brilliant front-runner who likes to run in the centre of the track, so she looks well positioned in box five.
