Decision - Dave Irwin

Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) charged trainer Mr Dave Irwin under rule 86(ag) of the GRNSW Greyhound Racing Rules as follows: 

- That you, Dave Irwin, a registered trainer, failed to comply with the Race Day Hydration and Hot Weather Policy when you kennelled the greyhounds ‘Harperama’ and ‘Nangar Thunder’ at the Maitland greyhound meeting on 9 March 2017 by failing to provide water to the greyhounds in accordance with the policy.

- That you, Dave Irwin, a registered trainer, failed to comply with the Race Day Hydration and Hot Weather Policy when you kennelled the greyhounds ‘Harperama’ and ‘Nangar Thunder’ at the Maitland greyhound meeting on 16 March 2017 by failing to provide water to the greyhounds in accordance with the policy.

- That you, Dave Irwin, a registered trainer, failed to comply with the Race Day Hydration and Hot Weather Policy when you kennelled the greyhound ‘Harperama’ at the Casino greyhound meeting on 24 March 2017 by failing to provide water to the greyhound in accordance with the policy.

- That you, Dave Irwin, a registered trainer, failed to comply with the Race Day Hydration and Hot Weather Policy when you kennelled the greyhounds ‘Nangar Thunder’ and ‘Black County’ at the Maitland greyhound meeting on 30 March 2017 by failing to provide water to the greyhounds in accordance with the policy.

- That you, Dave Irwin, a registered trainer, failed to comply with the Race Day Hydration and Hot Weather Policy when you kennelled the greyhounds ‘Nangar Thunder’ and ‘Harperama’ at the Wentworth Park greyhound meeting on 5 April 2017 by failing to provide water to the greyhounds in accordance with the policy. 

During an inquiry on 11 April 2017, Mr Irwin was found guilty of the charges. 

The Stewards have determined to impose a period of suspension of 16 weeks with eight weeks suspended for each charge subject to conditions. 

The Stewards also imposed a fine of $100 for each charge.

Mr Irwin has applied for a stay of penalty while also lodging an appeal against the decision.
