Talented newcomer Udon Boy looks the top pick in the feature race at Tuesday’s Goulburn meeting.
The promising son of Smooth Fancy and Flamenco Dancer jumps from box four in the 5th grade Madbookie 1-3 Wins Final (race three, 350m) having made an impressive start to his racing career.
Udon Boy clocked a smart 29.90 win on debut over the 520m at Dapto in December and returned from a three-month break after transferring kennels to clock a speedy 19.89 in last week’s heats.
He has also gone close to Paua To Roar’s 19.45 track record in trials at the Southern Tablelands track and looks capable of winning this.
“I took him to Goulburn recently and he trialled 19.57, which was a great effort,” Goulburn owner-trainer Fred Malone said. “I’ve never had a greyhound go that fast for me at Goulburn.
“He’s the quickest dog in the race but it will be hard for him. Danny Dee in box three is a quick beginner, while I expect Albatross Maid to lead from box six.
“I only bought Udon Boy a short while ago and it’s taken a little time to calm him down. He’s a highly strung fellow, but he can certainly run.
“The box is a worry (but) I’m really happy with him and he’s a decent chance.”
This is Udon’s Boy’s first start from box four but he is quick early and has the early pace to lead these.
Danny Dee ran a very smart 19.82 at Goulburn last month but finished last over the 400m at Richmond last Friday night.
Albatross Maid ran 19.89 to narrowly pip Udon Boy last week, but has gone unplaced in two previous starts wearing the green rug.
In other Goulburn Tuesday action, Crash Bandicoot (box two) looks the best bet in the first of four heats of the 5th grade Palmerbet Goulburn-Bulli Series over the 440m (race five).
A newcomer from the strong Jodie Lord kennel, Crash Bandicoot has scored two decent wins at Canberra so far and is unbeaten in two previous starts wearing the checks.
Something New (box three) clocked a very smart 24.78 victory over this trip three starts back and looks the top pick in the second heat (race five).
Trained by Goulburn’s Denice Warren, Something New finished sixth at Wentworth Park last week but has won both his previous races on his home track
File the Writ (box seven) has hit form recently for yet another local trainer - Canyonleigh mentor Ruth Matic - and looks the best bet in third heat (race seven).
He has scored one win and two minor placings in his last three starts and clocked 19.94 saluting over the 350m at Goulburn last week.
Oren Ishii (box three) has made a consistent start to her racing career and looks capable of saluting in heat four (race seven).
The Barry Gibbons-trained greyhound has placed over the 400m on her last two starts and has three wins elsewhere to her name as well.
