Ouch Ready To Sting The Opposition At Cannington

By Stuart Turner

Ouch will be looking to maintain his unbeaten record in Western Australia at Cannington on Saturday night when he lines up in the free-for-all skyracing.tv Stakes (race 10, 380m).

The much-travelled greyhound, who has won all four of his starts since transferring to Western Australia, jumps from box seven on Saturday night for trainer James Jeffries.

Ouch has been a much travelled greyhound, starting his career in the kennel of premier Queensland trainer Tony Brett before switching to the renowned Victorian kennel of Brett Bravo.

He scored two wins in Victoria before heading out west where he has so far looked unbeatable and Jeffries believes his greyhound will salute again on Saturday night.

“I knew he had the ability, but the consistency has surprised me,” he said.

“I think when he went to Victoria he was being lined up for the country cups over the 450 metres, but he never quite reached that level.

“He’s got plenty of ability, though, and I am delighted with how he’s done for me.

“If he jumps well I think he’ll win.”

Ouch won from this box over the 275m at Cannington earlier this month and has scored three victories over the 380m, including his 21.61 triumph last week.

Jeffries could also be celebrating a win with former NSW greyhound Ochre Keroma, who has box five in the 5th grade Property Plus Real Estate (race five, 600m).

Ochre Keroma won her last start with a brilliant come-from-behind victory over the 600m at Cannington last week.

“She’s probably doing a little better than I expected, although I knew there was some hype around her early in her career,” Jeffries said.

“Her run home last  week was so strong for a first look at the 600 here,” Jeffries said.

“The box doesn’t matter and again if she comes out well, I think she’ll win.”

In other Cannington action on Saturday night, Pepper Fire had no joy on a recent trip to Victoria but the CHRIS Halse-trained greyhound should salute in the first of three heats of the open grade Sandi’s Me Mum Memorial Series (race three, 520m).

Pepper Fire (box six), a runner-up in the recent Group 1 Perth Cup, returned to form with a win in decent company over the 400m at Mandurah last week.

Sassy Ginger (box eight) has won both his previous starts wearing the pink rug and looks the best bet in the second heat, while Who’s Got Class (box four) has scored two triumphs at Cannington in the last two weeks and can salute again in heat three.

Topology (box two) has been in good recent form and can score another win in the Free-For-All Love The Chase (race seven, 715m) for the stayers.

The son of Brett Lee and Starlight Delly has won four of his last five starts over this distance, including a smart 42.39 victory over this distance last week.
