Golden Zipper A Smart Chance For Richmond

By Stuart Turner

Golden Zipper looks ideally positioned to continue his flying form at tonight’s Richmond meeting.

The son of Barcia Bale and Golden Duck jumps from box two in a quality open grade Wentworthville Leagues Club Stakes (race five, 618m) aiming to further extend his impressive record of seven wins and seven minor placings from 18 starts.

Golden Zipper continued his recent strong form with a smart last start win at Wentworth Park, bolting in from box three in a time of 30.17.

He placed at his first look over the 618m at Richmond last month and with a victory over the 600m at Unibet Gardens also under his belt, should not have a problem with the distance in tonight’s race.

“I’m pretty optimistic of a win,” Robert Howard, husband of trainer Natina said.

“He’s perfectly drawn in box two as he’s a mad railer and seems to love Richmond.

“The distance is no problem for him and we’re looking at hopefully getting him over the 700 metres soon.

“It’s a tricky race but he’s in great form and he can win this.”

Golden Zipper’s toughest opponent looks like the classy Good Odds Bricky (box eight), who placed at her first look at the 618m at Richmond last week and has been racing well in top company at Wentworth Park recently.

In other Richmond action tonight, Scenic Miss (box one) can improve on her debut - in which she placed at Richmond last week – to take out the opening race – a maiden over 400m.

Megalodon (box four) looks capable of winning a quality race two – the 5th grade Steeline Riverstone Stakes (535m).

The Lynn Aldous-trained greyhound has run sparingly over the last few months but is a class act on her day and has won three of his five previous starts wearing the blue rug.

Good Odds Angel (box eight) is a class act with more than $100,000 prize money to her name and looks capable of winning an eye-catching race four – the free-for-all Bess Electrical Stakes (400m).

The Frank Hurst-trained greyhound won over the 400m at Richmond last week and can handle the wide draw, having scored four wins in seven previous starts wearing the pink rug.

Early Shirley (box eight) was an impressive winner over the 350m at Goulburn last start and looks the top pick in race nine – the 5th grade Tuiaki @ Stud Stakes (400m).

The Stanley Beckingham-trained greyhound was raced well on her last few visits to Richmond, including winning over the 330m last month.
