Panel Beater Aims For Wentworth Park Impression

By Jeff Collerson

A top grade race featuring elite sprinters highlights Wednesday night's Wentworth Park card but the most fascinating clash comes in race three with Panel Beater and Lochinvar Hugo seeking their first metropolitan win.

Last year's National Derby winner Magic Spring (pictured) takes on Wentworth Park stars Clock's Ticking, Aston Ebert, Royal Turbo and Lochinvar Dash in race six, the 520m Happy Birthday Paddy DD Free-For-All.

But racegoers are in for a treat in race three when the Garry Edwards-trained Panel Beater meets Lochinvar Hugo, from the Robert Smith kennels, in a 520m fifth grade.

A recent 565m Maitland track record breaker, Lochinvar Hugo was a certainty beaten when a half-length second to Iona Flyer at his Wentworth Park debut last Wednesday while Panel Beater was a brilliant last start winner at Nowra">Nowra.

This week's draw favours Panel Beater, who has box one, over Lochinvar Hugo, who has box three, identical to his position last week.

Panel Beater has been desperately unlucky in two Wentworth Park placings and trainer Garry Edwards has his greyhound raring to go on Wednesday night.

"His latest win at Nowra last month was a good effort because he jumped well but was chopped off at the first turn and had to come from the back of the field,'' Edwards said.

"Panel Beater does not have a lot of early pace so the rails draw is a big help.

"He is going better than ever because I recently slipped him at Dapto and he broke the 24-second barrier.

"Panel Beater has been freshened up because his goal is next month's Nowra Summer Puppy Classic heats but he is ready to run a big race first up.''

Another greyhound set to make full use of an inside draw on Wednesday is the Neville Brown-trained Bar Room Brawler in race two, a 520m Bulli To WP Final.

Bar Room Brawler finished fifth at Wentworth Park last Wednesday before winning his heat over 472m at Bulli on Saturday night.

"Bar Room Brawler had box eight last week at Wentworth Park which didn't suit him and he is far better positioned in box two on Wednesday,'' trainer Neville Brown said.

"I was happy with his effort to run fifth at Wenty last week and he went well to win from an inside alley at Bulli.

"Before last week's Wentworth Park race I had trialled Bar Room Brawler over 520m at Wenty and he got under 30.40 on a slow track.''

Fat Boy's Baby, a litter sister to this year's National Derby winner Big Daddy Bee, could give trainer Allan King his first Wentworth Park winner in Wednesday's fourth event, a 520m fifth grade.

Fat Boy's Baby led early when third to Iona Flyer and Lochinvar Hugo at her first Wentworth Park outing last Wednesday and King believes she should be improved by the run.

"She had never seen Wentworth Park before last week and she usually goes better at her second run on a track,'' King said.

"Box five might not worry her on Wednesday because Fat Boy's Baby usually begins smartly and she certainly gives her all every time she steps onto a racetrack.''

Before last week's Wentworth Park race Fat Boy's Baby had registered three wins, a second and a third in five races over 515m at Gosford.
