Frenetic A Smart Chance For Bathurst

By Stuart Turner

Patience is paying off for Mark Wicks with his greyhound Frenetic looking capable of continuing her brilliant recent form in today’s Ladbrokes Monthly Medal Final (race six, 307m) at Bathurst.

The daughter of Collision and Obsessed jumps from box five after making light work of a competitive field at Bathurst last week, scoring a career-best 17.69 triumph in the heats from box three.

That made it four wins in five starts and three in a row for Frenetic, who has now scored 12 successes and 10 minor placings from 43 starts.

She has the tricky box five against a very even field but her recent form has given Wicks has confident of enjoying another success.

“I wish I knew the secret,” he said with  a grin. “I think it’s just that she’s got plenty of confidence and has really matured.

“The track was fast last week but her time was still decent and she ran home very well.

“She’s capable of coming out and getting to the fence quickly, even from box five.

“It’s a very hard race but she has to have a chance on her current form.”

Frenetic has scored multiple wins over this distance and with two wins and a placing in five previous starts wearing the yellow rug can handle the squeeze box.

The John Chapman-trained pair Goleen Star (box two) and Blitzkrieg in box four both look the toughest opponents.

Wicks also rates his in-form greyhound Can’t Be Done (box two) as a decent value prospect in the third of four heats of the Bathurst RSL Club Series (race seven, 450m).

Can’t Be Done extended his record to four wins and three minor placings from 12 starts with a sound 25.90 victory over this trip last week – his second win in three starts.

“He’s very unpredictable exiting the boxes – you never know how he’ll come out – so box two should help this week,” Wicks said.

“I think he should give a bit of value, especially as the favourite with likely be JODIE and Andy Lord’s greyhound Lucky Whip in box six.

“I think he and Frenetic are both decent chances, but celebrating just once would certainly do me.”

In other Bathurst Monday action, Fled (box seven) looks the day’s best bet in race seven over the 520m.

Another handy performer from the gun JODIE Lord kennel, the newcomer has placed in all four of his races so far and looks capable of handling the wide draw.

Nothing Yet (box eight) was a nice winner at Bathurst last week and can triumph again in race five over the 450m, while Nollo Prosequi – another from the Lord kennel -  saluted well at Wentworth Park last Wednesday and looks the clear top pick in race eight (520m).
