Tiggerlong Dot Targeting Easter Egg Heats

By Jeff Collerson

Tiggerlong Dot will return to Wentworth Park on Saturday after notching her 18th win in Thursday night's Greyhound of the Year Final at Dapto.

The Loretta Rice-trained Six Sense went into the 520m event as far and away the leading pointscorer over the past 12 months at Dapto, but Tiggerlong Dot, trained by Kevin Keys, prevailed in the final, comfortably defeating Six Sense in a scorching 29.58.

Keys is now preparing Tiggerlong Dot for the heats of the Group 1 Ladbrokes Golden Easter Egg at Wentworth Park on April 1.

"People might think I'm crazy aiming for the Egg but it is not often a trainer gets a greyhound with as much ability and one racing so well as Tiggerlong Dot is at present,'' Keys said.

"As she showed again last Thursday, Tiggerlong Dot loves two turn tracks like Dapto and Wentworth Park because she really goes hard through the catching pen and around the corners.

"She might as well be in the Egg heats because if she comes up with box one who knows what might happen.

"Tiggerlong Dot is desperate for box one and has worn the red rug eight times for six wins and two second placings so if luck goes her way in the box draws she might do okay.

"That's why I will bring her back to Wenty on Saturday to start her Easter Egg campaign.''

ROXY Twist's great form along with new employment has life looking much brighter for Warren Scott than it was three years ago.

"I had been employed by Alcoa, at Yennora, for 36 years, but when the business shut down in 2014 I was retrenched,'' Scott, a hobby trainer from Pheasants Nest, in the Southern Highlands, recalled.

"But I have just found a new job as a maintenance fitter and ROXY Twist, which I had bought as a puppy, is going great.

"She won at Dapto last Thursday, covering the 520m in 29.76, time so good it even surprised me.

"I will take her back to Dapto this Thursday and then give her a couple of trials around Wentworth Park.

"If ROXY Twist performs well enough in those trials I will nominate her for the April 5 heats of the Group 3 New Sensation at Wentworth Park.

"That race is for greyhounds whelped on or after December 31, 2014, so is suitable for her.

"I paid $10,000 for ROXY Twist because she is a daughter of the former champion sprinter Double Twist.

"ROXY Twist is the only race dog I have in work at present and she has always shown ability.

"In one of her first hit-outs she clocked 16.90, less than two-tenths outside the record, for the 297m trip at Dapto.

"Three races back ROXY Twist recorded 30.21 over the 520m there, and at her next run she clocked 30.08. Then last week she came out and won in 29.76, and as smart as I thought she was, I didn't think ROXY Twist could run that!''

Shockwave, a 22-month-old son of Paw Licking and Bev Mahoney's fine bitch Resemblance, is early favourite for next month's Group 3 Ladbrokes Magic Maiden following two brilliant performance trials.

Heats of the 520m Maiden will be held at Wentworth Park on March 29 with semi-finals on April 5 and the final 10 nights later.

Shockwave made his first public appearance in a 515m trial at Gosford and stopped the clock at 29.94, fastest time of the night.

Then last Tuesday he easily snared time honours in Wentworth Park's first official pre-Magic Maiden performance trials, racing very wide but winning comfortably in 30.42 on a wet track.
