Busted Custard and Forty Twenty Two landed trainer Bill Turnbull a winning double at Goulburn last week and both look capable of repeating that feat once again for the Mount Warrigal trainer on Tuesday.
The talented litter brothers – sons of notable stayer Forty Twenty and Bree The Weapon - jump from box two in the 5th grade Madbookie Stakes (race eight, 350m) and box four in the 5th grade Goulburn Workers Club Stakes (race nine, 350m) respectively having both clocked decent times in their victories.
After two placings in his first two starts, Busted Custard saluted over the 350m from box seven in a smart 20.05 last week and looks to be benefiting from being the king of Turnbull’s kennels.
“He is quite a timid greyhound,” Turnbull said.
“We just let him have the run of our place. He lies on the back step and gets to see everyone coming and going – he’s like a family pet.
“Sometimes you need that change of routine to get the best out of your greyhounds.
“He showed great speed to motor home last week and got stronger as the race went on.”
Busted Custard faces a tricky field including Gazza Tron (box eight), a winner of two of his last four starts, but looks capable of saluting again.
Forty Twenty Two, meanwhile, clocked a speedy 19.95 from box five last week winning a maiden race and also has a sound placing over the 365m at Nowra to his name.
“Forty Twenty Two is the quicker greyhound, but I think Busted Custard will eventually have more stamina." Turnbull said.
“He could turn out to be the better of the two. Can they win again this week? If they both lead, I think so – that’s the crux of it.”
In other Goulburn Tuesday action, Sheza Pretzel (box one) showed improved form on her last start at Goulburn and has the draw to win the first heat of the 5th grade Palmerbet 1-3 Wins Series (race three, 440m).
Spirit Of Bella (box six) clocked a decent 25.21 while placing over this trip last week behind handy winner Something New and can win the second heat (race four).
Prying Eyes (box seven) has been out of form recently but has run 25.45 over the 440m at Goulburn and should be stronger from recent efforts over the 535m, so looks capable of saluting in the third heat (race five).
Les Zarr Lee (box two) has made a solid start to his racing career and looks the top pick in the fourth heat (race six).
The well-bred son of Wentworth Park track record holder Shakey Jakey and Ay Jay Zarr has won twice and placed three times in seven starts for gun Yass trainer Neil Staines.
