Zinzan Brooke Aims To Score Wentworth Park Win

By Jeff Collerson

Brooke and Jamie Ennis, who won the 2014 Golden Easter Egg with Tonk, will unveil their five candidates for this year's Group 1 event with each having a lead-up run at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

The wife and husband training team from Lara, Victoria, are especially excited by Zinzan Brooke (pictured) - named after the All Blacks rugby player, not the trainer - who steps out in the 5th grade Ladbrokes.com.au Stakes (race three, 520m).

"Zinzan Brooke is the best greyhound in our kennels, no question about that,'' Jamie Ennis said.

"He needs 20 metres to hit top speed but at his last start, over 460m at Geelong on March 3, he broke the second section record.

"Black Magic Opal, a Melbourne Cup winner, had clocked 11.06 but Zinzan Brook recorded 11 seconds flat, that's how good he is.

"My only concern about Saturday is that Zinzan Brooke has never travelled interstate before."

Zinzan Brooke has won 14 of 18 starts while team Ennis will also be represented on Saturday by Eddie Eagle (race one) and Matt Machine, Gaucho">Gaucho and Tedesco, who all clash in race four.

"Eddie Eagle has box eight which won't suit him but Matt Machine is ideally drawn in box one,'' Jamie said.

"Providing Tap Out Axe, in box two, does not chop him off at the start, Matt Machine should win.

"But if he puts a foot wrong Gaucho, a four-year-old, is racing better than ever despite his age.

"Gaucho won a top grade at Sandown in a flying 29.26 on March 2 and is drawn okay in box five because he likes to run in the middle of the track.''

The heats of the Ladbrokes Golden Easter Egg will be run at Wentworth Park on April 1, with semi-finals a week later and the $250,000-to-the-winner final on April 15.

Saturday night's best bet should be the perfectly positioned Sesame Street, who has box one in the 5th grade Evans and Sons Jewellers Stakes (race six, 520m).

"Sesame Street has been crying out for box one,'' the greyhound's trainer Mark Gatt said.

"He is not real flash early but has terrific mid-race speed and then tends to get to the line ordinary, although he is by no means weak at the finish.

"Providing he jumps cleanly Sesame Street should go close to winning.''

Wahwah Tiggy, placed in six of 12 Wentworth Park races, gets his chance to break through for his first city win after drawing box one in the 5th grade gapnsw.com.au Stakes (race seven, 520m).

"I have kept him fresh since he finished second at Wentworth Park on March 1, all I have given him is a bit of box practice to try and get him to jump faster,'' trainer Scott Goodger said.

"I was disappointed with his early sectional times last week but Wahwah Tiggy is better than that.

"I won on the same night with his kennelmate Boomwah and Wahwah Tiggy is a much faster greyhound.''
