Striker Light Leads Richmond Oaks Hopefuls

By Stuart Turner

Group 1 National Futurity winner Striker Light, fellow hot Victorian Up Hill Jill and track specialist White Sox Ethics look among the standouts in this Friday night’s Group 2 Richmond Oaks heats.

In-form duo Ebby Chance and Two Jay also look strong contenders in the four heats of the $40,000-to-the-winner series, which is open to female greyhounds only.

Striker Light (box five, heat one), from the gun Brett Bravo kennel, returns to NSW after her terrific victory in January’s National Futurity at Wentworth Park.

The daughter of Kc And All and Pretty Fancy scored a placing over a very strong 525m at the Meadows last Saturday night and has built the super record of nine wins and three minor placings from 15 starts.

She could face strong opposition in this heat from Up Hill Jill (box six), the brilliant winner of December’s Group 2 Laurels Classic.

Up Hill Jill finished second behind Striker Light in the National Futurity decider and has since recorded a good win over the 525m at Traralgon in preparation for the series.

Ebby Chance (box five) fell at Richmond last Friday night but can return to winning ways with victory in the second heat.

One of the current stars of Oakville trainer Michael Eberand, who is currently enjoying a hot run of success,  Ebby Chance has won seven of her last nine starts and saluted over this trip on February 17.

White Sox Ethics (box two) will aim to maintain her super record at Richmond jumping from box two in the third heat.

The Peter Mantach-trained newcomer has won four of her five previous starts at the western Sydney circuit, including a smart 30.59 triumph last Friday night over this trip.

Best value chance for the series could be Two Jay, who jumps from box eight in the fourth heat.

A newcomer from the Northern Rivers kennel of Jeff Chapman, Two Jay has won six of her nine starts so far and has been in brilliant form on her local tracks.

The four heat winners and runners-up progress to next Friday’s decider, which takes place on the same night at the Group 2 Richmond Derby.
