Azzopardi's Brilliant Chances At Wentworth Park

By Jeff Collerson

Leading Victorian trainer Anthony Azzopardi returns to Wentworth Park on Saturday night with three strong chances, including Golden Easter Egg hopefuls Brilliant Shot, Snoop Junior and Topper Teretto.

Brilliant Shot has box five in race two, a 520m fourth and fifth grade, while Snoop Junior and Topper Teretto have drawn four and seven respectively in race eight, a fifth grade over 520m.

"I intend bringing two very smart youngsters, Raw Ability and Lucky Chap, to Sydney for the April 1 heats of the Ladbrokes Golden Easter Egg, but my starters on Saturday night are also possible candidates,'' Azzopardi said.

"My best chance on Saturday is probably Brilliant Shot because if he has a bit of luck early and finds the front he is going to run fast time.

"Snoop Junior and Topper Teretto have won 19 races between them but while Snoop Junior is faster, Topper Teretto is a better race dog.

"Box four won't help Snoop Junior but Topper Teretto will have no trouble handling box seven.''

Topper Teretto is a proven NSW performer, having taken out the $75,000-to-the-winner Dapto Puppy Auction Classic on December 1.

One Thing
was a certainty beaten when fourth to Chaser at Wentworth Park last week and should only need a clear run to atone in Saturday night's fifth event, a 520m fourth and fifth grade.

One Thing has box five but has a good record from middle draws, having won five of 10 starts from boxes five and six.

The dog's trainer Mary Wright said: "My husband Ken, who is a keen race watcher, reckoned One Thing would have won last Saturday if he had got through when he charged between dogs in the early stages, but he was badly hampered when the gap closed and he did well to beat all but the placegetters.

"One Thing pulled up well after the race and has been jumping out of his skin this week, he is raring to go.''

Faith To Excel gave hobby trainer Patrick Daly a winner with his first Wentworth Park starter when she took out a heat of the Evans & Sons Jewellers Series on February 15 and is poised to go back-to-back in Saturday night's final.

Faith To Excel is a brilliant front runner so has the early pace to overcome her box five draw.

Not only has Faith To Excel provided Daly with a city winner with his first starter, but she is a giveaway greyhound.

"Faith To Excel's previous owner Allen Williams gave her to me when she was a maiden because his trainer needed the kennel space,'' Daly said.

"She has been in my kennels for six months and her heat win at Wenty was her sixth success for me.

"Faith To Excel should be capable of improving on her heat time of 30.46 because she has now had the benefit of a run on the Wentworth Park track.

"Before last week's race she had never seen the place.''

Best Bet on Saturday night should be Zambora Cross, who led throughout from box two in a sizzling 29.96 at Wentworth Park last Saturday and has the same draw in this week's sixth event, a 520m fourth and fifth grade.

Zambora Cross has a dream draw as Flying Point, box one, lacks early speed, while Reviewer and Srixon, in boxes three and four respectively, are wide runners.
