Stars Are Out For Bulli Gold Cup Heats

By Stuart Turner

NSW superstar Ritza Lenny, Group 1 Hobart 1000 winner Zipping Bruiser and Bathurst Gold Cup winner Falcon’s Fury are among the headline acts for the Group 2  Ladbrokes Cyril Rowe Bulli Gold Cup (472m).

Hot Victorian Topper Teretto and track record holder El Magnifico will also race in the five heats of the $40,000-to-the-winner series, one of the biggest NSW events of the year.

Last year’s Group 2 Dapto Puppy Auction Classic winner Topper Teretto, who warmed up for the series with a win over the 400m at Bulli last Saturday night, will jump from box four in heat one.

A star of the gun Anthony Azzopardi kennel, Topper Teretto has won four of his five previous starts from box four and has scored 12 wins and eight minor placings from 29 starts.

This heat also features hot Tasmanian El Grand Amigo (box one), who has run some super times on the Apple Isle, hot NSW star Clock’s Ticking (box three) and track record holder El Magnifico (box eight).

The Julie Fletcher-trained El Magnifico has had an injury-hampered career but is a brilliant talent and has won six of his seven previous visits to Bulli.

Ritza Lenny (pictured) has  won his two starts since returning from injury and looks the top pick in the second heat.

Last year’s Group 2 Bob Payne Spring Sprint winner (box three) won over the 472m at Bulli last Saturday night in preparation for the series and has won five of his eight previous starts wearing the white rug.

Zipping Bruiser (box four) was a brilliant winner of the Group 1 Hobart 1000 in December and has had two solid outings at Devonport since that triumph.

The Matt Lanigan-trained greyhound placed on his only previous visit to Bulli last September and should be freshened up for this.

Recent Group 2 Gosford Gold Cup winner Barking Bad (box two) looks to one to beat in heat three.

The Michael Eberand-trained greyhound has won five of his 10 previous visits to Bulli and triumphed over the 520m at Wentworth Park three starts back in a dazzling 29.78.

Last month’s Group 1 National Derby runner-up  Nangar Rock (box seven) looks the top pick in the fourth heat.

The Dennis Barnes-trained greyhound has run a smart 26.25 over this trip at Bulli and with four wins and two minor placings in his last eight starts in currently racing well.

Falcon’s Fury won the Bathurst Gold Cup on Monday and looks ideally drawn in box one to win the fifth heat.

The Paul Braddon-trained greyhound had no joy in the recent Paws Of Thunder and National Derby series but is a fabulous talent and has won both his previous two starts wearing the red rug.

Others to watch in the series include recent two-time Group finalist Black Hole Sun (box eight, heat four) and Kong (box seven, heat five).

The five heat winners and three fastest runners-up progress to next Saturday’s final, which will offer $40,000 to the winner.
