Left Pocket Looking Suited For Wentworth Park Win

By Jeff Collerson

A mediocre start ruined Left Pocket's chances at Wentworth Park last Saturday night but the greyhound still managed to finish second and a clean getaway on Wednesday night should see the Ashley Dwyer-trained greyhound back in the winner's circle.

Left Pocket has box two in heat one of the AAA Radiator Specialists Stakes over the Wentworth Park 520m journey and Dwyer is extremely pleased with the draw.

"If he begins cleanly Left Pocket should win,'' Dwyer said. "He likes to be drawn near the rails and I was happy with his second placing behind Centrico on Saturday night.

"If my dog had jumped better he would have finished closer although I doubt he would have beaten the winner, who jumped in front and went well.''

Left Pocket appeals as Wednesday night's best bet while front-running sprinter Combined Effort, who has box two in the 520m gapnsw.com.au Stakes looks good each-way value.

Combined Effort has been placed in each of four Wentworth Park races and like Left Pocket, is suitably positioned near the rails.

"She won seven of her first eight races but then broke a toe on a hind foot," trainer Mark Wilcox said.  "She has not been as good since, but having said that Combined Effort can still break 30 seconds when I trial her over 520m at Dapto.

"She is a consistent front-runner but I doubt she can go any quicker than 30.40 at Wentworth Park so if they don't run any faster than that on Wednesday she has a good chance.

"But Flying Point, who has box five, was impressive winning at Wenty on February 4 and he will be hard to hold out.''

Zipping Vixen is resuming from an eight weeks' spell in heat one of the Evans & Sons Jewellers Series (520m) but while she lacks race fitness she is ideally drawn.

"Zipping Vixen pulled up a bit scratchy after finishing fifth at Richmond on December 31 so I gave her some time off," trainer Owen Langley said.

"She is trialling well without setting the world on fire.

"Zipping Vixen is a good beginner who lacks early pace but she has got her favourite box and will be pottering along the rails over the concluding stages.

"If the leaders fan out on the home turn she should be in the firing line at the finish.''

Silver Grace
led everywhere bar the winning post at Wentworth Park last Saturday night but is set to atone after drawing suitably in box seven in Wednesday's third heat of the Evans & Sons Jewellers Series.

On Saturday the Frank Cini-trained greyhound began brilliantly and set up a big early lead but was "nailed'' on the line and beaten a half head by Foreseeable.

That was no disgrace as Foreseeable, a particularly strong finisher, was second at the first turn and immediately "had the drop'' on Silver Grace.

Cini's greyhound, a wide runner, made full use of box eight on Saturday so is well placed out in box seven this week.
