Sassy Ginger A Strong Chance At Cannington

By Stuart Turner

Enzo Crudeli is the man of the moment in Western Australia and he looks capable of scoring a training double at Cannington on Saturday night.

The Nambeelup trainer scored the biggest win of his career with Equanimity’s surprise victory in last Saturday night’s Group 1 Sky Racing Perth Cup and returns to the scene of his success with two winning chances in Never In Kansas and Sassy Ginger.

Never In Kansas jumps from box two in the 5th grade NPB Security Summer Chase (race six, 600m) in what will be her first attempt at the 600m. She showed she is in peak form though, with an impressive 29.88 victory over the 520m at Cannington last week, cruising home by ten lengths.

She has scored two wins and three minor placings in her last six starts and is handy from box two, having scored two wins and two minor placings in seven previous starts wearing the checks.

Sassy Ginger looks one of the night’s best bets jumping from box three in the 5th grade Get the TABTouch Stakes (race eight, 520m).

The impressive son of Kinloch Brae and Sassy Guest has won all three of his previous three starts wearing the white rug.

Sassy Ginger has been in hot form since returning from a stint in Victoria with gun trainer Kel Greenough, scoring a smart 29.91 win over the 520m at Cannington two starts back.

In other racing at Cannington, Woodvale Flyer (box six) - a placegetter in last week’s Group 1 Sky Racing Galaxy - looks the clear top pick in the 5th grade NPB Security Summer Chase (race four, 600m).

The Steve Withers-trained stayer has scored two wins and three minor placings in her last five starts and should have no issues with the trip after her runs over the 715m in the past fortnight.

Times Square (box six) was unlucky to finish just outside the placings in last week’s Perth Cup but looks ideally positioned to win a quality Free-For-All Community Newspaper Group (race seven, 520m).

The classy CHRIS Halse-trained greyhound has scored four wins and two minor placings wearing the green rug and won at Cannington two starts back in a blistering 29.79.

Times Square faces some tough opposition here including former track record holder Single Sticka (box eight) but looks hard to hold out in this race.

Victor Metti (box one) has been racing solidly recently and looks the night’s best bet in the 5th grade NPB Security Stakes (race 12, 520m).

The Michael Johnston-trained greyhound has been winless since winning a tricky 5th grade at Cannington on December 12 but has scored three placings in his last six starts.
