Gilroy Has A Fabulous Chance At Lismore

By Stuart Turner

Variety has been the spice of life for Fabulous Wall recently and the consistent greyhound looks a good chance to salute again at tonight’s Ladbrokes Park Lismore meeting.

The consistent son of Fabregas and Regal Silver jumps from box three in the 5th grade M & T Tyres heat (420m, race four) aiming for a third consecutive victory.

Fabulous Wall extended his record to consistent record to 11 wins and 19 minor placings from 55 starts by defeating a classy field over the 411m at Casino on January 27.

He has raced at Casino, Ipswich and Albion Park over the last month and Tweed Valley trainer Des Gilroy said his greyhound had benefited from the change of scenery.

“I like to vary the routine with my greyhounds,” Gilroy said. “It’s like if you are sausages every day – you’d get sick of them quite quickly – so I like to mix things up.

“It’s quite strange – he runs the 431m at Ipswich quite strongly but hasn’t been at his best over the 420m at Lismore. He seems to start bobbing over the last ten metres and not finishing strongly.

“He looks well graded in this race, though, and there’s no doubt he’s been racing well recently.

“There’s no such thing a certainty in greyhound racing but looking at this field you’ve got to think he’s a decent chance.”

Fabulous Wall’s recent good form includes a speedy 25.41 victory over the 431m at Ipswich on January 27.

He has placed once on his two previous visits to Lismore and has won twice and placed twice in six previous races wearing the white rug.

Terra Torra (box four) has run a smart 23.88 and looks the biggest danger, while Miss Lynbra (box five) has mixed form recently but looks a fair each-way prospect.

In other Tuesday night Ladbrokes Park Lismore action, Benne Fortuna looks the latest hot newcomer for astute NSW Northern Rivers trainer Frank Hancock and looks the best bet in the 5th grade Goonellabah Newsagency Stakes (420m).

The well-bred daughter of champion Cosmic Rumble and Dulcinea (box one) won well on her second start over the 395m at Albion Park on February 1 and looks ideally positioned for this.

Kingsbrae Missy (box eight) is yet to fire after returning from a long break but looks capable of triumphing in the 5th grade Gary Johnston Clunes Agricultural Centre Stakes (420m, race seven).

The daughter of Don’t Knocka Him and Kingsbrae Sam won six of her first nine starts and has saluted in two of her three previous races wearing the pink rug, so looks the best in this.

Other top chances at Lismore look like Mitchie Madam (box seven, race five), Irma Adeline (box six, race six) and Cosmic Wants Too (box eight, race nine).
