O'Brien Hoping For Magical Night At Gosford

By Stuart Turner

Evergreen Rubelly Magic is still racing impressively and can score yet another victory tonight at Gosford.

The Rodney O’Brien-trained greyhound jumps from box seven in the 5th grade Woy Woy Poultry Supplies Final (race six, 400m) aiming for back-to-back victories after a smart 23.14 win two weeks ago at Gosford.

That win extended the daughter of Magic Sprite and Lagoon Smylee’s record to a consistent 24 wins and 30 minor placings from 97 starts since her debut back in September 2014.

Rubelly Magic has the modest record of two wins and a minor placing from 10 previous starts wearing the black rug but looks capable of saluting here.

“She’s still jumping around like a puppy in the mornings,” O’Brien  said. “She’s always been a happy little thing with no vices.

“I’m a great believer that if you treat your greyhounds right and do everything for them, they’ll look after you. It’s just been about keeping her stress-free.

“Box seven is tough but she’s raced a lot in top grade. She’s back in grade for this and I expect her to lead early.

“It’s certainly a tricky race but I’m reasonably confident she can win.”

Rubelly Magic usually races well at the Central Coast track, having scored two wins and six minor placings in her last 11 visits to Gosford.

She has raced against the best in her distinguished career and looks the best in this company.

The biggest danger looks like Avatar Fox (box eight), who has won his last three starts but gone unplaced in two previous starts from box eight.

Mrs Browns Girl (box one) has scored three placings in her last four starts and is the latest handy short course speedster for astute Hunter Valley trainer John Miles.

In other Gosford action, Lofty Larrikan (box two) can score a debut win in a heat of the ladbrokes.com.au Maiden Series (race three, 515m).

The Paul Bigeni-trained pup flew round the 516m in a performance trial at Dubbo recently and looks one to watch.

Kid Friendly (box eight) has won two of her three starts at Gosford and looks the top pick in the 5th grade Steve Whalland Race Images (race five, 515m).

The Ron Bell-trained Zipping Montana was a decent Wentworth Park winner last start from box two and can score another win from the same draw in the 4/5th grade Rapid Clean Central Coast Stakes (race nine, 600m).

Swift Rain (box four) clocked a sparkling 29.78 on debut at Gosford two weeks ago and looks capable of scoring another victory in the 5th grade Like Us On Facebook Stakes (race 10, 515m).
