Launch Missile Ready To Strike At Richmond

By Stuart Turner

Launch Missile is being primed for the big stage and looks capable of scoring another win at tonight’s Richmond meeting.

The impressive newcomer jumps from box five in the 5th grade Evolution Stakes (race seven, 535m) aiming for a third win in her first six starts.

Launch Missile’s latest triumph came last week when she scored a terrific five-length triumph over the 535m at the western Sydney track in a  smart 30.90.

This will be a first start from the squeeze box for the well-bred daughter of Where’s Pedro and Tifia but trainer Mark Arncliffe believes his greyhound is up to the task.

“If she begins how she can then she can win from this draw,” he said.

“Her run home time last week wasn’t sensational but the first and second sectionals were good. She’s reasonably strong and capable of running well over this distance.

“If she carries on like this we might have a look at taking her to Wentworth Park and seeing how she goes there.

“I know her owners are rapt with how she’s going. I’m delighted they are enjoying things – it’s great seeing owners happy – and hopefully she can win again tonight.”

Launch Missile performs better over the longer distance and also recorded a 31.32 victory over the 535m at Richmond on January 6.

The main danger to Launch Missile looks like Bradam Begins (box three), who is resuming after three months out but has won over the 717m at Richmond and has talent.

In other Richmond Friday action, Wolf Cry (box eight) finished fourth at Richmond last week resuming after two months out but can improve in the 5th grade Bess Electrical Stakes (race six, 535m).

The Ross McDougal-trained greyhound has scored seven wins and eight minor placings in 23 starts at his home track and has won twice and placed one in three previous starts wearing the pink rug.

La Chica Pequena (box four) was a strong last start winner over the 400m at Bulli and can salute again in over the same distance in the 4/5th grade Castlewood Kitchens Stakes (race eight).

Rockin’ Tonight (box three) has won her last two starts for  leading western Sydney trainer Christine Proctor and looks the best bet in the 5th grade Angosturra LLB Stakes (race 10, 400m).
