Goodwin Aims To Enforce A Wentworth Park Win

By Jeff Collerson

Connections of most greyhounds like to see their charges in box one but the trainers of Red Enforcer and Pretty Ali were particularly pleased to learn they will be wearing the red rug at Wentworth Park on Wednesday night.

Red Enforcer has the rails in the 520m Nowra To WP Final while Pretty Ali will carry the scarlet vest in the 520m wentworthpark.com.au Final.

Red Enforcer, who has registered seven wins and 10 seconds from 44 starts, qualified with an unlucky, fast finishing third over the 520m Nowra trip on January 16.

While he has not raced at Wentworth Park, trainer Fran Goodwin said Red Enforcer "knows his way around the track.''

Goodwin said: "He had a couple of trials at Wenty earlier in his career so he can handle the course.

"When he began racing, Red Enforcer wanted to get wide and was better off in an outside box. But as he has got older he has changed his habits and now is a very keen railer. so box one is ideal.''

The Harry Sarkis-trained Pretty Ali won her Wentworth Park heat last Wednesday night in 30.39 after taking the lead leaving the back straight.

Pretty Ali was third fastest heat winner, with Barney Brann (box two) qualifying in 30.27 and Black Ju Ju (box five) recording 30.35.

Barney Brann raced a little wide from box two in his heat and from the same draw should ensure Pretty Ali gets a clear run to the all-important first turn.

Black Ju Ju relished having box one and only four rivals in his heat last week.

Chevy King led throughout for an impressive win in his 472m heat of the Bulli">Bulli To WP Final and steps up an additional 48 metres on Wednesday night, but trainer Christine Proctor is  confident her greyhound will have no difficulty seeing out a strong 520m.

"Although Chevy King drew wide at Bulli I really wanted to see him drawn near the rails in the Wentworth Park final,'' Proctor said. "He nailed the start in his Bulli heat and was able to get across to the rails.

"I don't think he could have won the final from a wide alley at Wenty, so I was really happy when he came up with box three in the final.''

Wedneday's safest bet should be Tranquil Blossom, who has box two in the opening event, the Aust Day Eve Party Stakes (720m).

Tranquil Blossom is a notoriously slow beginner but is a powerful, dyed-in-the-wool stayer, who needs an inside box.

No greyhound in Wednesday night's race has a better record over the 720m trip at Wentworth Park as this Sam Sultana-trained greyhound, who has been placed in two of her three races over the course.
