Azariah Holds The Aces At Lismore

By Stuart Turner

Azariah looms as the best bet at Ladbrokes Park Lismore’s meeting this evening.

The Robin Palmer-trained greyhound jumps from box two in a heat of the Ladbrokes Mobile Apps Sprint Series (race six, 420m) aiming for a third victory in seven starts.

Azariah was particularly impressive when competing at this track and distance two starts back, in which she won in a smart time of 23.99.

Palmer puts the recent success down to his greyhound renewed energy at home.

“She’s an incredibly lively greyhound,” Palmer said.

“At home she’s jumping around all the time. She seems to have got  even more energy from somewhere recently and is racing well.

“She’s a lovely greyhound who is easy to train and if I had four more like her in my kennel and I’d be very happy.

“She’s a consistent greyhound who puts in all the time and can run well in this.”

Kingsbrae Chooky (box five) looks to be the main danger to Azariah in tonight’s race.

Trained by astute Tweed Heads mentor Glenda Dart, Kingsbrae Chooky has won twice and placed four times in her last six starts and triumphed last start over the 395m at Albion Park.

“You always have to be wary of Glenda’s greyhounds as they are always likely to go well,” Palmer said.

Azariah has never won from box two before but I don’t think the draw will bother her. She’s still capable of running strongly over further, but she’s possibly at her best over this distance.

“I’m optimistic she can win this.”

In other racing at Lismore, promising newcomer Bella Lyndan looks a strong chance in the opening event of the night.

Having her first race start, Bella Lyndan has shown decent ability in trials and looks ideally drawn in box one to win first up.

Nappo Quoted has won his last two starts in impressive fashion and can score the hat-trick in race seven on the card, while Spanish Queen has been a consistent recent performer for gun local trainer Frank Hancock and looks capable of saluting in the race nine.
